For management/ownership not wanting to pay these girls $2.13/hr to perform off the clock tasks really shows how fricking cheap they are. That place prints money.

Out of curiosity, why would you automatically assume they're lying?

Not that it’s any better, but I think it was more likely Overtime pay. It’s not that they are worried about the hourly pay, it’s more that that when you have a high percentage of your employees going into OT they have to possibly pay higher insurance and other costs.

But yes, especially at the rates we are talking it’s absurd to not pay all that with good employees then worry about hiring additional shitty employees.

A lot of it is investors too though. The investors look at the quarterly reports and see the OT pay and while a small amount it’s a cost that good management should be able to avoid.

My wife worked there in college, which obviously my he different from now, but yea, your till and til out time....when you’re having beers is off the clock. You have to do it, but you’re also hanging out with friends. I’ll ask her if this suit was just business as usual.

I love the Chimes and don't want anything bad to happen to it. But I know one of the three women bringing the lawsuit, and she is as sweet and honest a person as you can imagine. I remember when she worked there during the lunch shift, and she told people on campus at the time that she was amazed that the Chimes did not pay people for the hour that they were required to work prior to the opening of the restaurant. I am always open to additional information, but if the facts are as stated and you are requiring people to work and not paying them then that is a violation of the law. The Chimes should be liable for damages in this case.

One of the other posters stated that the Chimes is printing money--they must be making a fortune with that place, given how popular it is. Surely then can afford to follow the law and pay people for work that they are doing and are required to do.

How are you "pressured" to work off the clock? Now if they were told to work off the clock, didn't do it and then was fired they might have a case.

I dont understand why places like the chimes cant pay staff hourly wages. The amount of beer we drink when we are there is insane. Abita aint cheap baws.

If this is true, Chimes is stupid to have risked all thise over $3.00 an hour.

It's not like they don't make money hand over fist.

That being said, even if they have 5,000 unpaid hours at $3 per hour, they are looking at $15,000.

At the end of the day, everyone involved is going to get like $50

Well this is more about the waiters being able to work more during tipping lunch and dinner times. Chimes could care less to pay them the full 40 hours at waiter minimum. They were advising the crew to work off the clock if they wanted more waiting table time. These people stand to make maybe $500 bucks off this. Definitely a lawyer grab. Not worth time and publicity. Should have settled out of court.
