why do parents continually cope with this bulshit line when they are obviously miserable?

its like parenting is some type of Stockholm syndrome where youre being held *hostage* by your children yet still express positive emotions towards them?

idk, seems like a sad existence to me.

I wish your parents had thought about these things before bringing you into the world...

First off, I think I'd be bored as shite if I didn't have kids. Maybe I could have enjoyed my late 20's a bit more, but that stuff would have gotten old, IMO.

Things I thought I enjoyed are now just amplified watching my kids learn. I used to love to fish, but I LOVE watching/teaching my kids to fish. Same with youth sports.

And, I just don't get the idea that kids are super-expensive. I've got my fourth kid on the way and the costs are not a deterrent. You don't have to buy your kids a ton of shite. Just feed them and love them.

To each his own, but don't think that you've figured out life at 25.

First off, I'm 33, and I never claimed that I figured out life. I did figure out that I never want kids. I'm sorry that you find that offensive, but it's your problem, not mine.

It's great that you love doing things with your kids and spending time with them. I don't.

I didn't decide to not have kids because of money. That had zero to do with my decision. Also, I think your kids are probably bored as shite if you only feed them and love them.

No Time, Money, and Stop Excercising

Raising kids diligently: a costly, risky investment in an effort to ensure your genes survive (combined with another's) ideally for several more generations.

If you can't do that without having no time, money, or ability to stay physically healthy, perhaps your IQ & earnings potential, as well as ability to manage time, are a true reflection on whether your genes should survive.

Perhaps you realize this deep down, and cope by convincing yourself that kids aren't worth your time. But really, you know that it's you, with your inferior, trashy traits, that isn't worth the gene pool's time.

Being a parent is the greatest thing in a long line of great things that has happened to me. I just wish I could start over. I'm 16 years and three kids into this and I haven't regretted a single day . To be with my family enjoying the day, that's all I need. And maybe throw the Yorkie in there too.

The obvious answer to this is that all living organisms basically live to reproduce. However, you can make your mark on future generations in a different way. I still feel like improving is the goal of life so improving yourself, your community, and your world is important. How you decide to do that is your decision.

I don't live to reproduce. I have plenty of other abilities that don't involve being able to stick my dick in the right place.

I feel like I've already made my mark on thousands of young Marines that I trained and mentored over my career. I wouldn't trade that for all the "joy" of having children of my own.

Well...you do. You're just repressing those basic biological instincts. Which is fine. There are plenty of people that have no business reproducing.

Let me ask you something. Do you know anyone who got married at 25? Were you vehemently against it? Did you go to their wedding and say, "You haven't figured out life"? Because last time I checked, choosing to commit to someone for life is a pretty big life decision.

Do you know anyone who decided to start trying for a baby at 25? Did you tell them they are too young to be making such a life-changing decision like that?

That's the thing. People are so quick to tell someone they can't make adult decisions when the decision is not to have children. But when it is the other way around (the decision to have kids, the decision to marry), no one says shite to the person.

If you told someone on their wedding day that they'll change their mind in a few years, you'd be a huge a-hole. So likewise, don't tell someone they'll change their mind about other important decisions. It is degrading and something they're already hearing from worn out hags who care way too much about their reproductive life.

Becoming a father was the best thing I will ever do. Choosing not to have kids is a choice I can respect but don't bag on those who do make that choice.

Exactly. People are so used to defending their choice (on BOTH sides) that they end up pissing each other off.

I can't get over the concept of children being a "choice" you make or not make instead of a biological imperative.

Nonsense. There are people born without the ability to reproduce, and for some weirdos even the desire to reproduce.

My desire to not have kids comes natural.

That's fine. Just admit that in the first place instead of being in attack mode. There are lots of people who can't wrap their heads around homosexuality either. That doesn't mean it isn't real.

derp .after 3 or 4 generations any of your descendants would have as much in common with you genetically as they would with a stranger.

the "passing on your legacy" is pointless.

That really has nothing to do with biological instincts to reproduce...

Not really. You can tell yourself that all you want, doesn't mean its true. You have been conditioned to not want kids.

I'm not saying you're wrong or stupid or foolish for choosing to not have kids. I don't care.

So what about women or men that have fertility issues? Or that are just sterile?

So you saying their life is now meaningless because they couldn't fulfill their biological instinct? That they "have no business reproducing"?

And before you say "oh just adopt then".....the average adoption costs 20-50K. For some couples...this just isn't an option for them.

I don't know you well.. but you seem like the kind of parent I admire. You are still YOU.. not "mommy". Yes, you're a mother, but it isn't the definition of your identity.

sure, but we also have basic biological instincts to shite on the ground.

as humans we have the ability to assess and reassess life decisions, and basic biological drives, so choosing to have children is one of those choices that does not seem rational to me.

brb giving the next 18-25 years of my life to devoted to another persons happiness and well-being (no thanks jeff)
