Not to mention.....you've basically taught your child all their life that they come before everything and everyone and your child doesn't see how balance in everything is key.

and when the kids are young, it is work to keep the scale balanced between your relationship and the kids because they do take up so much time and effort
you have to make the time, which is easier said than done to be honest

I am childfree by choice, and am happy with the decision.
I used to subscribe to the notion that parents are misreable. And to an extent that is true, but it seems like its only years 0-5, and 14-20 that are horrible. Sounds like the rest is pretty fun.
But you know, that is about half the time it sucks. Can you imagine choosing to do something where you know half is going to suck? Yeah, not me.

I'm saying if I were in a position to save either my wife or children, I would save the children. She would too.
And I take it to the extreme because I wanted to show that it's not cut and dry 100% of the time. I don't expect you to starve your child to save you own arse.

kinda sad to admit it, but I do agree with him to an extent. It becomes all about the kids and the parents do forget about themselves. Very challenging. Moreso than the job that pays the bills. And parenting is done electively.

Yep, my boy had tubes put in and his tongue tie corrected today. It's an easy procedure, but still scared the hell out of me

I was not a baby kind of guy and I submitted to the pressure to make a child. Without my daughter I don't know where my life would be today...actually, I do know...I'd probably be playing golf and video games all the time but I'd gladly trade that to hear "DAD!" seventy billion times a day in that little voice.
Look, kids are hard work. They require a lot of patience (which I don't always have) and tons of attention (which I can't always give). But she makes me happy and makes my life infinitely more fulfilling than it would be without her in it.
