Dude at our school came from a nice family with a home on the bay. Siblings all to college, etc. Only problem was one street off the water was a different breed of cat where drug abuse was prevalent. Dude and his boy from across the way decide its a cool idea to smoke sweets dipped in embalming fluid and steal trucks from the local dealer and sell them in Houston. End up selling the trucks to an undercover and tries to shoot himself out of the situation. Got 20 to life for attempted murder of a cop.

lol.. One or two.. Seriously, I grew up with a good bit of people who became frickups. Some started in high school, seemed to be on the right path through high school then headed down the wrong path, some got their shite together, some didn't.
A guy I have been knowing since 7th grade started using drugs in high school and was found dead about two months ago. He put himself in rehab several times, never was able to shake it.
There was this guy my age who lived on side of me when I was a kid and throughout my teenage years. Living on side of each other we use to hang out all the time, but we went to different high schools. After high school I didn't see him again until about 5 or 6 yrs later. He was walking along the highway, I was at the gas station which he was walking to. He didn't see me, but I saw him talking to someone and his teeth was all fricked up. He had meth mouth.
Had another friend I grew up with become addicted to gambling and drugs. I actually knew his family well and his dad had a very addictive personality. They were members of a non denominational church and the mom was all about the church, the daddy pretended he was, but every time my friend would use his dad's truck (teenagers, just got his license), he would look behind the seat and find cigarette packs, lotto tickets, empty bottles of listerine..

My 2 older sons went to a small school. 50% of their graduating class have been arrested or served time or may currently serving time as well...... Let that sink in.

Guy I played baseball with and went to school with until 5th grade is doing 40 years for manslaughter from a drug deal gone bad when we were 18. Killed a dude (maybe 2) out in a cane field in St. Martin Parish over 500 ecstasy pills. Fled to Gulf Shores for spring break and was arrested there.

There was a kid my age who lived a few houses away. His father was a complete a-hole. We were not allowed to associate with them. Years later he broke into an old woman's house and beat her to death to steal some money. He's doing life in prison.
Even as a kid, he was an a-hole.

Sadly the pot smoker crew from my senior year are dropping like flies. They are doing nothing for the argument for pot.
3 of the 4 biggest stoners are dead. Another 3 are on Facebook all the time and they've been in recovery. One has to have relapsed because he dropped off Facebook.
A junior high buddy became a Vietnamese gangster. He's doing life for murder.

Buddy of mine had a lot going for him in HS, a couple of bad trips and he was batshit crazy. Went from a starter on the basketball team to pissing in a trash can in class, to living in the woods behind my neighborhood. I'm sure there's some st Tammany baws on here who know exactly who I'm talking about.

Best friend in highschool had his wife leave him out of nowhere and he's a pill head now. It's crazy how similar we were at one point in life and how polar opposite we are now.

One of my good childhood friends died of a heroin overdose a few weeks ago. Hadn't talked to him since we graduated high school. Was a good friend in elementary and middle school.

My closest friend went south becoming a dealer and went to prison. It broke my heart as he was/is better than that. It still just shocks the hell out of me when I think about it. Loved that guy.

Former buddy of mine. Grew up playing baseball together for years, from little league through highschool. Spent the night at one another's house countless times.
We started to drift apart late in high school as he progressively got into harder drugs.
I went away for undergrad. He failed out of a local hometown community college quickly.
Several years and multiple failed rehabs later, he was found dead with a needle in his arm.
Really hate if for his parents. You've never met nicer folks.

My best friend growing up is in Angola for the rest of his life. We did everything together. We lost touch around 8th grade when I moved away, but from 3rd-8th grade we were inseperable. He went to a party and had drinks. Needed to make a beer run so he asked this girl if she wanted to ride with him. They hopped on his motorcycle and went. When they got back her boyfriend or date that brought her was pissed that she left with him. Fight ensued and my friend shot the guy. This is account that I read in newspaper after my mom told me about it. He wrote me a letter and it was really weird bc we hadn't talked in like 10 years at the time. He claimed self defense in his letter, but in article it was apparently everyone's word against his that it wasn't self defense. Sounded like he was getting an arse whipping and shot the guy to make it stop. He wrote me another letter but I didn't respond bc he was asking for other family's info. I know he's bored but I'm not writing letters back and forth and putting the rest of my family in that same awkward spot. I didn't feel too bad bc we really lost touch bf that.

I read about a friend from elementary school who had been arrested by the local sheriff's deputies for domestic abuse. My friend was the Chief of Police of the town (same town where we had gone to school) and had threatened to fire any of his police officers who tried to arrest him, so the Sheriff was called in. I think he had been drinking.
He must have turned his life around because several years later I saw on the town's website that he was the mayor.
