I only got two years(8k) out of one of mine, so definitely keep an eye on them. but you really shouldnt be putting any grease in them from what I have heard. also make sure you use the lucas grease if you do
I only use that Lucas grease. keep a spare tube and the grease gun loaded...

Whats the longest you've gone without pumping grease in vortex hubs? I have the non-break version with the screw on cap. It just seems odd not to put in new grease but it does say maintenance free to 100,000 miles. I've pumped new grease a few times, and its always clean good looking grease start...

Visited the inlaws and pulled my Uncle J and 25 hp Gator Tail over from Houston. Boat is running good now that Delta figured out I had a machined defect in my carb restricting fuel. I need to put a trolling motor on this boat now that it looks like it'll work out.

re: What performance should I be getting out of a 35hp GTR gatoetail on an 1854 hull?
Posted by cheezag03 on 10/4/18 at 1:13 pm
With the 25hp and those mods you should be seeing better rpms and speeds than that. The limiter is set at 4750 rpms so I don’t know why you are getting such low rpms. If that’s the stock prop your performance should be better than that. Are going WOT with about 1/2 to 1/3 of prop still in the...

Uncle J 18x48 open layout mod v pointed bow with a GTR 25 hp XD with Delta mods level 2-3. Upper Texas Coast on the ICW has some places with 25hp restriction so it looks just like a stock 25 with a BPS Q exhuast.
I have 10 hours on it all with just me and 50 lbs of gear. This is with the standa...
re: Am I looking at too big of a boat?

thanks to all for the info. I'm not as worried about top-end speed unless what drives that translates to getting in and out of shallow boggy areas. Or i need to look for a 25hp mud motor with high low-end torque...
Am I looking at too big of a boat?

Anybody every run a 25hp surface drive or long tail on a 17x50 .125 flat bottom aluminum? How much better would a surface drive push the boat than a long tail?
Here is what I'm trying to do.
Looking to sell a 15 yr old 18' CC fiberglass tunnel hull with 150 hp outboard to get aluminum flat ...

I just assumed any flat bottomed aluminum with an air cooled motor was a mud boat...

pardon my ignorance, but I thought you put a surface drive outboard on a mud boat?

I've done three ways in order of best to worst:
1. Debone and cut up into about half inch to inch pieces. Add to chili when you put in your chili plate ground meat after cooking down the trinity. I cooked in cast iron dutch oven and let my chili simmer for a good while with the lid on. You ge...
