Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul addressed the Baton Rouge Press Club this afternoon to discuss what he calls a growing relationship between the police department and the community.

“It’s not stop snitching in the city of Baton Rouge, its stop snitching just tell the truth because the community is sick and tired of the violence that is going on in the community,” Paul told those gathered at the event.

But this is not the department’s first effort to get more involved. Programs like “Kicking with the Badge” and “Boxing with the Badge” have helped police create a dialogue with young people. Paul says this stronger bond with the community is working.

The chief says that arrests related to violent crimes were only 48 percent in 2017. He says that number has increased to more than 70 percent for the past three months.

The national average is around 60 percent. Paul says this improvement is due to the Baton Rouge community’s growing trust in the police department.
