Has anybody told you to take it to an Autozone and get the check engine light read yet?

If it's flashing, then it's urgent. If it's not flashing, no big deal.

My Honda Accord's lite came on & I checked the manual. It said it was just a sign to have a routine check up. It eventually went off, then, a few mths later it came back on & stayed on. Manual gave directions on how to turn it off for good. Point being, check your manual re engine light coming on.

Goodness folks.
When asking a question about your vehicle, at least tell us the year, make, & model. And the mileage would be great too.
Best thing to do is park it and get a rental. Nothing worse than being broke down hundreds of miles from home.
When you get back, stop off at No'Reillys, AutoZone... and get them to scan it for you.

you still got time, run over to auto store and have them scan it for you, if its o2 sensor or evap system or something, then you are good to go for your trip and fix it when you get home
sometimes its just because you left the gas cap loose

Why? Over some $40 part? I don't want any lights on that don't belong on. Are people this cheap?

Usually this means that the down stream pet cock valve has fluctuated from the minimum voltage required to sustain a steady valve wave rectification. Simply give the coil over plus voltage amperage a 12 volt jolt with an inductor. The capacitance will decrease, the inductance will increase all while fuel flow through the filtered gear ratio friction brake system recharges creating a more stable cooling process. A typical parts store like AutoZone or Advanced auto parts can plug a scanning tool into your OBD input that is somewhere under your dash. This will tell them exactly which part I mentioned is faulty. I would drive it but only 699 miles, never 700 or more!

Pull the negative battery cable, and reset the computer. Light might not come back on.

Lots of vehicles you can get the codes with just your key and a specific sequence. Lots of things throw CEL's that don't hurt your car. The factory amp in my SUV will throw a low voltage code... why that is tied to the CEL I will never understand. I just reset it, the dongles are so cheap these days there is not reason not to have one and there are a bunch of good free software options you can run on a PC, phone or tablet.

Go to AutoZone and buy an ice pick there and shove the ice pick through the CEL until you don’t see it at all.

Check the earl level and antifreeze level. If those are good it is probably an O2 sensor. Just drive faster.
