Why? Optics and because some elites in California and New York can feel good about themselves.

I don't know about Texas, but in Alabama the cost to convert a power plant from coal to natural gas is fairly expensive. Coal was the dominant fuel source for so long, it's not so easy to just flip a switch to natural gas. And cheap natural gas is a relatively new thing within the last 10-15 years.

They lost something.

But you can see that the big problem was wind and solar. Followed by some natural gas plants.

What pipeline are you referring to? Not the Keystone XL, right?
