I am part of a charity cooking team that would like to head to Lake Charles to cook for Laura survivors. We need a church or some other location where we can setup and have a network of people to get the word out and distribute the food. Anyone know of such a church or group?

Change this to Charity Hookers and you'll have a better turnout.

The folks at Parkway Bakery and Tavern in N.O. usually do stuff like this.

Maybe send them a fb message. Might be able to send you in the right direction.

Group of Baptist disaster relief folks left BR this AM heading to Lake Chuck. My wife (no pics) made them cookies for the trip. Anyway, I’d imagine they are setting up around one of the larger Baptist churches over there. No idea which one, but they usually have a base of operations. This particular group is over there doing cleanup, but they usually have a feeding contingent that meets up. Maybe call a couple Baptist churches and see what they’re doing.

They’ll put libertarian agnostics like me to work, so I’d imagine they’d take anyone.

Thanks for idea. I have tried calling churches in and around Lake Charles, but not surprisingly no one answers the phone.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. We got hooked up with a woman who got us setup. If you know anyone in the Lake Charles area who needs a hot meal send them to the Brookshire Bros. Grocery on Ruth Street in Sulphur. We will be there from 11:30 until the food runs out.

By then Red Cross has taken over and everyone gets 3 cold chicken nuggets, handful of peas and a roll. Meanwhile, they dump the donated food in dumpsters.

How was the turn out?

Group of us heading there next weekend and currently looking for locations in Lake Charles to set up. May be setting up at a church/school in South LC on Saturday. Our rig can put out 1,000 meals a day.

Red Cross

God, I hate those frickers with the fire of a thousand suns. They exist solely to enrich themselves on the backs of people suffering. They come in, set themselves up as the main shelter, making sure they have the authority that all aid must go through them at that shelter. Then they staff it with local well-meaning volunteers. Once they've got the people who are in need in their shelter and in their claws, they pay their contracted suppliers to bring in meager amounts of crap food so they can give everyone two chicken nuggets and a tablespoon of peas to say they fed people and then get on TV and beg everyone to make donations. The donations, which are WAY more than they ever spent "helping" people and paying for that volunteer workforce, are then used to pay everyone in their organization a salary. Meanwhile, locals who want to help are forbidden to come onto the Red Cross's turf to help without the Red Cross's permission. Since the Red Cross embeds itself like a tick at the main shelters, this means that anyone who wants to help the people in the shelter is kept away from the people who need help unless they're playing the Red Cross's grift game.

They will burn in hell for what they do.
