Do like I did and get you one that gives you options...

I can do everything from smoke a couple racks of spares, grill steaks or leg quarters over coals, or fire up the gas real quick to grill some burgers and dogs. It’s perfect. Why choose when you can have it all?

This.

I can tell whenever my neighbor is grilling because of the overwhelming smell of lighter fluid coming from his grill. I feel embarrassed for him and bad for his guests for having to eat his cooking.

Wouldn’t you generally have to cook in fat if you were using say cast iron instead of a grill?

Depends on the food but for proteins I oil the meat whether it's going on the grill or the pan. Plus in a charcoal skillet you can baste with butter garlic and herbs without worrying about dirtying up the grill.

I have the Char-Griller like I posted above. I use it at least once or twice a week except in the dead of winter and even then it’s at lest every couple weeks. No rust. Of course I keep it clean and covered so that helps.

I have an egg and a Weber gas. Having both meets all of my needs.

Gas, cooks a steak good. Everything else sucks. Dries everything out.

Charcoal cooks everything good and taste 100x better. Besides, one should never rush BBQing. Got to have time to cop a buzz.

Had one like that at one time. shite fell apart after about 3 years.

Got a egg and after the first few times cooking with it, it cooks like a dream. One has to learn the curve using it.

Mine will be 3 years old this coming Father’s Day. Still going strong and looks virtually new. No telling how many hundreds of times I’ve used it on everything from brisket to hot dogs.

Those Eggs were just starting to get popular right before I quit competitive cook outs. I think they’re fine for backyard but they should not be allowed in competition.

I purchased my Rec Tec pellet grill about 7 years ago and haven’t used anything else since. If I want to cook steaks or burgers I fire up my Rec Tec, if I want to smoke a brisket same thing. I love it and I love the flavor the wood gives the food.
Best thing is they are built to last, mine is still like new. I did update the controller so I can use the app and start it from my phone inside my house using WiFi. The only time I had an issue with a part is because I broke it, I called to order a replacement and they warrantied it for me. Super nice people to deal with.
They have many different models now, they just had the one when I first purchased. My wife gets nervous anytime I get on their website haha. The things aren’t cheep, but like I said built to last with stainless steel and I think now ceramic doors. I don’t regret my purchase.

Got one recently and really happy with it. Hadn’t used my gas grill in forever, and was using an Akorn for smokes. The temp control is great and you can add wood chunks on demand for smoke. The app sucks but everything else has been good.

We have had our Big Green Egg for 5 years. We cook everything on that thing. I don’t think we’ve used the oven since we got it. Have only replaced one part that got lost when we moved. So, yeah, charcoal for me.

Copycat Visiongrill has a quick insert that allows you to switch from charcoal to gas in under a minute.
