Had my Weber genesis for a few seasons and contemplating adding a quality charcoal grill. Would be interested in hearing how much you use the charcoal if you have both

Food Board. Have gas, but prefer the taste of charcoal - if that helps.

We have one of the dual grills. I prefer charcoal because I think it tastes better but gas is convenient for cooking like 3 burgers.

Ease and convenience? Gas
Taste? Charcoal

What are you looking to cook?

I have a smoker and a gas grill. My needs are met with that combo

As just about everyone will say, charcoal for taste if you have the time but hard to beat the convenience of gas.

Charcoal baw. Get a charcoal chimney and you can have the fire ready in 5-10 minutes.

Not sure yet. We usually just do boring chicken and burgers. I would like to try new things on charcoal grill

I have a combo offset charcoal smoker/grill and gas grill with a side burner... it works well and I honestly use both sides a good bit. You are sacrificing cooking space for versatility though.

Had gas for years. Got a great deal on a charcoal grill and won’t look back. Get a chimney Charcoal starter and you can be cooking in 10 minutes. Got some New York strips for later this week to grill, can’t wait.

I don’t think anything puts a nice sear on grilled meat like a charcoal grill. Also, if you’re cooking something with a mop sauce, the flare up and smokiness/flavor from the coals just can’t be replicated on a gas grill.

But damn it’s easy to control the temperatures, change the temperatures, and you’re fire is ready in 10 minutes and off instantly with gas

Get a Weber Kettle and Weber Chimney. I like pour a little vegetable oil on my charcoal and light it up, perfect bricks in a few minutes.

My backyard consists of:

26" Weber Kettle
A Camp Chef Explorer double gas burner
22" Weber Smokey Mountain vertical water smoker
Traeger Pellet Grill

Anything I want to cook quickly I use the camp chef, but I can get a chimney of coals going in the time it takes to prep whatever food I'm going to cook.

I have a dislike for gas grills, but that is probably more an issue with me than with the grills.

ETA: So my answer is charcoal, definitely charcoal.

I own too many grills...

But I will be buying that masterbuilt gravity series. Never thought I would say I would buy a masterbuilt, but damn that thing is the best of all worlds
