Get used to the term “change order” if you dont already know it

Had a design professional use AI for a part string this week because they couldn't wait for a rep to reply. Asked me to verify it. It was wrong and wouldve cost them money. Good luck out there

It doesn't "learn" anything. It just searches inputs in its database created by humans. It can't determine if it's right or wrong, the context, or anything about its environment.

People think AI is some Skynet sentient being, that's just not reality. It has no capacity to feel, learn, or make decisions. It's just an informal query system that's still 100% dependent on humans. It can't offer anything more than humans know.

sounds like it will be as successful as sending jobs overseas

I use AI from all the big developers and don’t see this happening at all. It’s amazing what it is capable of, but relying on its execution is a sketchy proposition.

I think way too many that don’t work entry level jobs are more likely to over rely on it’s capabilities and need to work backwards to fix errors than there will be job elimination.

The thing about AI is if you unwittingly accept unacceptable results, you basically let it teach itself to make errors.

These systems rely on the person inputting request. So if your's is stupid, guess what?

AI, Automation, and Robotics will eventually destroy many blue and white collar jobs. I think we are approx 10 years away from this. I work in Big Tech and my company ran a simulation and AI and Automation could/would eliminate 33% of our company workforce in 10 years. That is a staggering amount of people. Its coming whether people want to admit to it or not.

I think AI will be a problem in 10-15 years with regards to the workforce but 1-5 years? Nah.

Think about tasks that some entry level people do.
Sorting and labeling photos from shoots into DAMs or PIMs
Writing research questions for product development or marketing
Data analysis
Creating presentations
Managing some process
Taking notes in meetings
A shite ton of work is done cleaning data from disparate sources to normalize it. Now, you can just verbally ask chatGPT to do it, and once it does it a few times with your help, it's darn near perfect.

And so on. These jobs absolutely will go away. Is it bad? Probably not immediately. If I can hire a quality employee instead of some greenhorn, I'd love to do that and just give them tools they need.

HOWEVER... someone above already said it. WTF are kids supposed to do if there aren't a ton of ground floor jobs just to get on board?

Name them. I can 100% guarantee a robot can't frame a house, insulate it, run plumbing and wires, roof it, and pour and float concrete in 30 years. Unless you have 1000 robots and even then I don't see it.

Yes, they will replace jobs but not as many as people believe.

It's not a database. And yes, it actually learns. At least research a bit before opining.

They will replace almost all warehouse jobs. Almost all car manufacturing jobs. Going to significantly cut into the Legal field especially firms that specialize in contract law or real estate etc. Many IT jobs will go the way of the floppy drive. Many jobs in medical field will go away. You guys can deny this until you are blue in the face but its coming. Hopefully you have been maxing retirement accounts or those that are in these fields better learn a trade if they want to keep working.

Our country isn’t built to handle a 33% reduction in the workforce. Nor is UBI a cure.

Those jobs I'm not denying. I'm talking about jobs that actually require people. None of the ones you listed require anything but automation and AI. Trades are here to stay for a long time.

It's output is quite literally limited to the data existing in the dataset it's searching. Whether that's the internet or inside a company's database.

Tell me how a non-sentient unlinked group of computer processors "learns" without human intervention or input? The "learning" is simply searching data storage for questions previously asked by humans or answers given to questions containing similar words with no ability to understand context or apply original thought.

What you're calling "learning" is actually done by human computer programming, or "the process of creating instructions, or code, for computers to follow to solve problems or perform tasks".

Imported labor or idiots (told what to do by AI) will take your job.

With few exceptions trade jobs are among the easiest to cut with technology. A mini-excavator and 1 operator can do more work in an hour than 10 men could do in a day. Robots are far better welders than the best welder, getting one in place is the only reason welders still weld today....that is an easy fix in all but the toughest situations. Plumbing has already became a job where you drag what amounts to a stiffer version of a garden hose from point A to B and electrical work basically consists of stretching what amounts to a drop cord through a cable tray that can be hung by machines.

They keep saying this shite, but if you actually used ChatGPT or some other AI program there’s really not much to it.

I tried getting it to help me with some excel sheets and all it did was mess everything up. Maybe it gets better. Idk

Some idiot cut his hand with a box cutter at our company. I asked one of the AI models to make a Box Cutter Safety Flow Chart in English. The pictures and labels were nice, but it couldn't correctly spell anything.

Sure, it will get better with more information its fed over time. Also, as far as these "doomsday reports" of it not turning itself off, REMOVE THE POWER SOURCE!
