Nothing is wrong with it, but he would be raked over the coals for it.

Lizzo wouldn't be nearly as popular, sell nearly as many albums and her shows would be about empty if she relied solely on the black experience for her career.

If she's consuming people in the audience it explains the weight.

Seems more like she's calling out black people for dismissing her just because white people attend her concerts. What's the problem calling that out?

Bingo. At least one person here can understand the written language.

Wut? Yall ae inventing shite to defend her saying her music isn't for white people. I begrudgingly clicked the link looking for this supposed context, and it simply isn't there.

Here is the entirety of the article that is about her:

quote:

Lizzo has some concerns over the chart-topping songs because they were designed for a black audience but are so popular among whites. That is what “disturbs her the most.”

“This is probably the biggest criticism I’ve received, and it is such a critical conversation when it comes to black artists,” the singer said. “When black people see a lot of white people in the audience, they think, ‘Well, this isn’t for me. This is for them.’ The thing is, when a black artist reaches a certain level of popularity, it’s going to be a predominantly white crowd.”

The intelligent singer and the business woman added, “I am not making music for white people. I am a black woman. I am making music from my black experience.”

Lizzo was born Melissa Jefferson. She claims to create music “for me to heal myself (from) the experience we call life.”

The singer from Detroit knows that she is doing something powerful for young Black people. She wants there to be more love and self-love, as she said: “We need self-love and self-love anthems more than anybody.”

She added, “So am I making music for that girl right there who looks like me, who grew up in a city where she was underappreciated and picked on and made to feel unbeautiful?’” she asked before answering, “Yes.”

Lizzo also had a few choice words for the critics who are trying to paint her as a racist.

“It blows my mind when people say I’m not making music from a black perspective—how could I not do that as a black artist?”

She should make sure she constantly emphasizes this. Make sure all of her audience is aware of who she wants to consume and appreciate her music

The full quote isn't nearly as bad as the click bait thread title.

The full quote is a nothingburger

She makes music, more white people show up because there are more white people.

This board would be thrilled if Hollywood took this approach with commercials and movies (there are more white people so we show more of them), but since it's coming from someone we hate and the OP made it sound like she doesn't want white people to listen to her music, they are mad about it.

Are gun shots and baby cries in the music?

When black people talk about her making music for white people, they mean she is catering her music towards white people to draw in that crowd. Her statement is her saying she just makes her own music from her life experience, whoever shows up, shows up. She isn't writing music to appeal to a certain demographic, Ala boy bands of the 90s appealing to teenage white girls, like Taylor swift does

how old are you? this has been a thing rappers have been criticized over for a while.... making music to appeal to a white audience isn't something new. I've never heard a lizzy song but she is saying she doesnt do that.

she is not saying "i dont want white people to listen to my music" thats something completely different.

accusing her of making music for/aimed at white people is like calling her an uncle tom.

Lizzy sucks enough as it is, I dont know why anyone would listen to her

Never heard one of her songs and not interested to.

Last weekend I heard my first Trailer Swift song, she sounds like an eleven year old girl singing, reminded me of Tiffany, no thanks.

I'll just listen to Linda Ronstadt on my 8 track in my Chevy pickup after Frampton Comes Alive.
