I'd like to reach some level of pop-culture awareness nirvana where news like this just doesn't reach me.

It started during Trump when CIA run sites like "The Root" would derisively refer to us as "wypipo" and then the Becky and Karen shite.
Step 2 was capitalising "Black" and keeping "white" lowercase.
That normalized mainstream disparate treatment and it's gotten steadily worse from there.
