Oh, the Bat Cat dude! Maybe I can lure that a-hole cat out of his protected domain. I'll do it for $35,000.

Any hunters want a trophy cat? Anyone?

Are you implying that hunts like you describe don't do that? Or that's it's only ok for certain posters to say it without linking examples?

I would say its much more the guides fault than the hunter

yeah it sounds like the dentist had all the legal issues in line and the guide fricked up

which isn't shocking b/c this is Africa we're talking about. it's not like the rule of law means anything over there
Agreed.

I do feel a little bad for the dentist though. Being a target for the internet masses is scary on all levels.

What are people more butthurt about?

The fact that a lion that serves absolutely zero purpose to the people of the U.S.A. was killed maybe/maybe not illegally, or that Caitlyn Jenner is considered a hero?

Why isn't there a thread for literally every animal that's killed illegally? Why are we picking and choosing this lion?

IDGAF if he does it legally...killing an animal just for the end game of taking a picture behind it's dead body is pretty sick.

It reminds me of a kid torturing an alley cat.

Dude is basically a serial killer with self control.

No, I was lazy and didn't read the article and made a post off a quick glance at only one reply. Maybe if you read, you'd know that.

I know you do yor homework. Not sure that can be said about other posters who I think just mindlessly regurgitate some pseudo-libertarian response about how The hunt will raise money for the locals and save animals without an iota of verification

most of these hunts are not libertarian in any sense of the word. they're highly regulated by local foreign bodies, international bodies, and American state/federal regs (importing the animal back requires all sorts of red tape).

Nobody knows that. The article doesn't state what was illegal about it. They say they had permits. I read it as that it was illegal to kill the wounded animal within the park and remove the collar without notifying the proper people first.

There have been two arrestsade so yes something was illegal.

Also this lion and another male naturally fought and earned their pride which includes 6 lionesses and 12 cubs. Natural selection is fricked when a guy with a weapon comes in. Given the concern for the species, they probably should only hunt older lions who have had their time as leaders or simply never breeded offspring. Don't weaken a species by shooting its pack leader. But this is Africa we're talking, so stupidity is rampant. Look at the northern white rhino, it's about to go extinct because there's only 1 male left in the entire world.

You have no basis for saying that.

He got his permit
Went with a well known guide
When he found out it was illegal, he went to the parks department and told them

What did he do wrong again? These sensationalized stories ruin people's lives because other people are too dumb to understand what happened. There is a lot of dumb in this thread too

....but I guess you'd rather the African poachers kill all of the lions unregulated, because game reserves have no money to manage, and then sell their kills on the black market. The only thing that has saved numerous animals from being poached to extinction is these game reserves...all paid for by donations and hunts

FWIW, I don't trophy hunt. IDGAF how big of a rack a deer has. I just want the meat, but I understand the purpose of these hunts, and I understand the benefits they provide to both the animal and indigenous populations

This is a message board. People talk about interesting stories. This is an interesting story, it's a famous lion and this type of hunting is pretty controversial. Hence, people take sides and we discuss it. Most of us are not going to think about it much after this thread fades.

Hope that helps.

In general, I think monetized hunts that go toward conservation are fine, assuming the money goes to what it is supposed to and has the impact of precluding poaching due to the financial incentive.

The people who partake, IMO, are pieces of shite for the most part who want to pay thousands to have someone hand them a rifle and pose for a facebook picture.

This is an entirely different situation, as the animal was taken illegally and in secret, and the poacher destroyed a very popular creature for his own fricking vanity.

I hope he loses everything.

I agree 100%. I understand that the money used from these hunts is supposed to be used for conservation, and am ok with that. However, the people paying for these hunts are fricking scum. I remember the thread about the Texas cheerleader and her argument was that she was a conservationist... If these people care so much about the animals then why not just make a donation without killing any animals? They are just rich assholes that get off on killing things for fun.

Nice to see you totally ignored all most posts about supporting regulated exotic hunts. Pretty much like all of your fly-off-the-handle posts.

Apparently dentists make some bank. I rarely ever root for the SJWs, but I think this time I hope they reduce this dental practice to a free clinic in the bad part of town.
