No they aren't. Lion prides consist of groups of females, almost always (half)sister/aunt/niece to each other. I didn't find anything about arrests being made.
So, his cubs being killed by invading lions will weaken the species? Seems like a pretty large leap of faith, but sure... What if a single, stronger lion takes over the pride? A lion that couldn't defeat the two lesser lions, but is much greater than any one of them individually. That would pass on better genetics to the pride.
You can come up with any hypothetical you want. It's all just speculation. My scenario is as likely as yours.
The only stupidity that is rampant is in your posts.

I took a guess that a guy who may have skirted legality in killing an apparently famous lion for photos and a mount is probably an a-hole, yes.

Hunters are often not very media savvy. A big factor in the foxhunting ban in the U.K. were videos taken of the hounds and/or Jack Russell's killing the fox.

most of the time the animals get killed anyway for conservation (like the rhino example from last year) or are moved to zoos for the remainder of their (now short) lives. it's essentially no loss. now do i share the same values as the hunters? not really much overlap there, but i see their point.
the bad part is that all of this negative attention and drama is decreasing the price of the permits/tags, which is hurting conservation. it's the classic case of too many people relying on emotional-irrational guidelines to shift their thinking instead of logical-rational analysis. "the feels" are literally, indirectly allowing animals to get poached and populations to be destroyed.
