Yep even in this day and age a woman can financially ruin a household with debt the husband doesn't know about.

On the flipside, husbands do this via gambling or drugs. But more often it's the wife who then cries "i was buying stuff for the family" when she's outed for having 7 credit cards maxed out at 24% on $50k.

I can honestly say that my wife doesn't have any vices that would cause her to rack up huge amounts of debt. She's just not that type. Except for 'rone. He has a spell on her.

How can this happen? Married or not, how can you have some cosign anything without them knowing? I didn't know that was possible.

Come on. We actually have a 3 bedroom house in our neighborhood that is really nice but not moving ... because it is 3 bedroom. Owner will go as low as $280K, which is "cheap."

There are other options as well in our neighborhood - all 4 bedrooms. All around $340K and up.

but I have been informed that his bank account (they shared an account) has had a "hold" placed on it.

I've been in banking for 20 years and this makes absolutely no sense. If he is an joint owner of the acct the bank has no right to put a hold on it. Only the IRS, our court order can place a "hold" on a deposit account.

edit:

Chances are she went into a branch and wiped out all the funds in the account. I've seen it happen and the joint owner can't do anything about it.

Needs to call a lawyer pronto!

That's what I initially thought as well, but obviously I am not well versed in divorce, attorneys or cease and desist letters.

FWIW, my friend lives in a different state. Not sure if this plays a part in it?

This is why I'm going on a financial kamikaze spree if I see a hint of divorce coming. I know there are community property laws, but I'm trying to sell the house and cars and shite from under her without her knowledge. Then draining the savings and hitting the casino to launder some money.....or double up.....or just lose it all so nobody can be happy.

Certainly could be the case. New ding dong has a certain appeal to certain women.

It is possible. My ex forged my signature and used my salary information to obtain a loan to buy a car while we were separated. I didn't even know about it until I went to buy a house a year after the divorce was finalized and it was on my credit report. I called the loan company and they said I was on the hook and nothing could be done since we were married at the time but I could file criminal charges. He refinanced in his name only so I didn't.

Granted we did a DIY divorce because it was a starter marriage with no children or assets or debt (that I knew of) to split so I don't know if it would have been different if we had attorneys involved or if there was a legal separation.

It's a door that swings both ways. My wife's friend's husband got busted with a prostitute last year, so she filed for divorce. He lost his job around that time (we didn't know why at the time, but I'm sure it was connected to his bust), but that year he had made a tad under $300K and got a severance package of $400K+. He hid all the money. She has access to nothing. Her attorney fees are over $40K already and still climbing.

100% this. I will go out in a blaze of glory and a hail of gunfire before I step foot in a divorce court.

He hasn't and continues to make bad decisions.

The child is with her mother in another state. And has been. For over a month.

Not sure how this is "acceptable," "legal," or whatever.

Record anything she sends him, dates, times, and even phone calls (after telling her he's recording of course). Start building ammunition, because it's obvious she was probably banging another person.
