The mortality rate has been about 4.5 percent... To out that in perspective the flu is like .02 percent and it is contagious so it is kind of a big deal. If a couple million people get it world wide that is 90k dead. I expect global wars followed by a peace time. This is nature correcting overpopulation. Sucks for all of you with subpar immune systems... Should have gotten the flu shot.

I said 20 years ago that all flights should be grounded around the world. This is before 9/11! What a glorious place the earth would be with different cultures and countries. To travel by boat you would need to be chill. Vetting incoming migrants would give the us an opportunity to only allow the best of the best. No unnecessary wars. We could have spent our money on border walls, south and north. Isolation ! Also, when you would visit France you would see French culture instead of middle easterners. The learning experience would not diminish with today’s technology

Not all that much to worry about really. SARS, a cousin of this new virus, was dealt with fairly quickly. This one will be, too. Now, if it was a new strain of bird flu, that would be something to have major concern about.

Hey BeerJeep- if the person had a sufficient immune system why the hell would he need a flu shot?
Maybe flu shots should be limited to older people or people who are in environments with a high risk of catching a serious case of the flu instead of every tom, dick, and harry.

Nope. I haven’t had one and I haven’t gotten sick in over a decade. But the reason why we “should” get them is herd immunization. Just because we don’t get sick doesn’t mean we don’t carry it and can expose someone who is more at risk.
