“Hospitalized” is a broad term. A lot of the early cases could have been admitted as a precaution as cases started popping up around the country.
That age group also has a higher number of cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a study that said about 38 percent of the 508 patients being hospitalized in the country are between 20 and 54, the New York Times reported. About 20 percent of patients, including those in intensive care, were between 20 to 44, the report said.
This is very misleading. The vast majority of these hospitalizations are likely in the 40-54 age range. They're just trying to scare the younger population into self-quarantine.

For the narrative that this is only affecting old people and everyone else is fine.
Hospital that aren't that busy could be keeping moderately sick patients overnight.
Their data is incomplete and that's the whole problem with this mess

Furthermore, no one has ever said it doesn’t affect young people. It does, in a very small percentage.
But you can’t wreck a society over bullshite like this. Calling young asymptomatic people the ‘spreaders’ is bullshite. You know what else the young people are? They are our employees and they are our healthy population that needs to be working and living to get us through this.
This disease shouldn’t be about quarantining young people, it should be about quarantining anyone over 60.

Here’s the CDC link
quote:
As of March 16, a total of 4,226 COVID-19 cases had been reported in the United States, with reports increasing to 500 or more cases per day beginning March 14 (Figure 1). Among 2,449 patients with known age, 6% were aged =85, 25% were aged 65–84 years, 18% each were aged 55–64 years and 45–54 years, and 29% were aged 20–44 years (Figure 2). Only 5% of cases occurred in persons aged 0–19 years.
Among 508 (12%) patients known to have been hospitalized, 9% were aged =85 years, 26% were aged 65–84 years, 17% were aged 55–64 years, 18% were 45–54 years, and 20% were aged 20–44 years. Less than 1% of hospitalizations were among persons aged =19 years (Figure 2). The percentage of persons hospitalized increased with age, from 2%–3% among persons aged =9 years, to =31% among adults aged =85 years. (Table).
Among 121 patients known to have been admitted to an ICU, 7% of cases were reported among adults =85 years, 46% among adults aged 65–84 years, 36% among adults aged 45–64 years, and 12% among adults aged 20–44 years (Figure 2). No ICU admissions were reported among persons aged =19 years. Percentages of ICU admissions were lowest among adults aged 20–44 years (2%–4%) and highest among adults aged 75–84 years (11%–31%) (Table).
Among 44 cases with known outcome, 15 (34%) deaths were reported among adults aged =85 years, 20 (46%) among adults aged 65–84 years, and nine (20%) among adults aged 20–64 years. Case-fatality percentages increased with increasing age, from no deaths reported among persons aged =19 years to highest percentages (10%–27%) among adults aged =85 years (Table) (Figure 2).
The equals signs were converted from "less than or equal to" and "greater than or equal to" signs, usually talking "less than" for younger ages, and greater than for 85 yrs old.
So, looking at the numbers from the CDC link, it's pretty clear that the media sensationalized those numbers. Of the subset of people that have been hospitalized, 20% of them have been in the 20-44 year old range, with an additional 18% being in the 45-54 age range. Only 2-4% of the subset of people that have been sent to the ICU have been between the ages of 20-44.
Probably grouped 20-44 because there were low numbers to group them by tens.

What percent of people are age 20-54 as opposed to 55+. Also how many of those 20-54 people are dying?

So what you're saying is that this mostly affects the elderly?
What happens when the healthcare system gets so overwhelmed that the healthy people who can beat it with the right treatment aren’t able to get said treatment?

I wonder when they have these “secret meetings” to tell hospitals to keep some younger people if they can and news outlets to push that narrative to scare young people into following protocols . Some of you seem to think you know everything all agencies are trying to do and coming up with all these conspiracy theories

They aren’t fake numbers. The numbers just represent a self-selecting population of more serious cases.

But why would fox news be pushing a narrative against President Tanning booth?

Yeah and what percentage of the younger demographic being hospitalized have underlying conditions? Simply including ages doesn’t tell the full story.
Obesity is what is going to frick over a lot of Americans.

Most 20 year olds don’t have underlying conditions . A middle school student in Alabama has it . They may/may not require more intensive care than a 60 year old but they are catching it and potentially spreading it to others who may . Think that is the point. Most young people think they can’t/ won’t catch it and that is simply not true

Will someone explain what old people young people give it to? How many old people do college students come into contact with on a weekly basis? This is such a lie. They can’t see grammie for 2 months? Oh nooooooo!!!!!
Young people are giving it to young people. Stop your narrative.
