couple of Ukrainians didn't take long to take a shot at this Russian.

I will say this about the video and sad events with the kid.
I think there is a shark in the water. I think the video captures its first pass.
I think the kid saw it and started swimming away from it and while doing so looked over his shoulder.
I also think there are screams at the end that sound different than the crowd.
Just my take. Not 100% certain, but that’s my take based on watching the events unfold in the video.
I did talk with half a dozen guys at work that watched, as well, all said wait - wtf was that? That a shark? He’s swimming away and looking over his shoulder.
I’m not an expert by any means, however I have spent many a fishing trip offshore. Sharks follow boats. Sharks attack quickly and not always at the surface. I’ve gone to gaft/net a fish and seen sharks mere feet away in pursuit. They are not always visible and they don’t always break the surface during feeding.
So it may not be , but it’s not the most absurd opinion.

So they found the guys body fully intact? Damn that’s crazy!

I have only seen video on my phone and couldn't see anything.
How big was the shark relative to him based on what you and your friends saw in the video?
With it dark and being next to a big dark ship I find it difficult to see a shark but that is my opinion.
I am not saying it isn't or that it isn't a possibility. I do think anyone looking over the rail would have had a better view to see a shark than the grainy video people base a possible shark attack on though. I also think, unless it was a massive shark, clothing or a body would have been found

Again, I’m not 100% certain.
To my perception I see something larger than 8-9ft.
Based on what I think may be a dorsal then a tail.
The kid starts swimming away immediately and looking over his shoulder as if he fears something behind him.
The audio suggests something, as well. We listened over and over …it’s there. Difficult to detect but seems to be two screams that sound logistically different.
Horrible event no matter what. Whatever happened.
As for no remains.
Man…there’s never just one shark. Especially
around a food truck (boat).
Again, I’m not advocating for one explanation. Just saying I think it’s plausible.
As for the drunk kids not seeing?
Man ive been on many a boat where sober people catch a glimpse and that’s it.

eyewitnesses are the most unreliable of witnesses

Yeah I'll tell that to the guy who just got devoured by a shark that it's an "irrational fear"
Nah, you are more likely to get in a car wreck on the way to the beach.

I agree with your assessment. I don't think there was any definitive proof but some evidence that's what happened.
Posted on 6/9/23 at 3:43 pm to prplngldtigr
it's definitely plausible. The bahamas is loaded with Bulls and Tigers, probably the 2 most dangerous sharks to man, but attacks are still relatively rare.

and if a shark jumps in your car on the way to the beach it’s just not your day

You're right, people a thousand miles away watching a grainy, blurry, zoomed in, and slow motion bigfoot-quality video have a better grasp of what happened than the dozens of eye witnesses.
All I implied was that of course in those conditions people wouldn't have seen a shark.
Am I wrong?

so the video sold you that he was taken by a shark/sharks?
No, but I'd say it's the most likely cause considering the kid was moving towards the life preserver, saw some disturbance at the waters surface, started swimming away from the life preserver, then disappeared from sight less than a half minute later.

how long was the video you watched?

Can't recall. It wasn't the original though. Some dude tried to clean it up and was playing it and rewinding it. I didn't agree with him saying that he could see a shark in the video, but the boys behavior in relation to the water disturbance and him disappoing shortly after leads me to think shark.
The kid could clearly swim. He was by the boat. What else could have happened to him?

you think people looking over the side of the boat have less chance of seeing a shark than a bad video?
