I hadn't been to one either, and had never heard of one...

1/3 were Baptist

I’m also not a cheap arse

The 2/3 who were not Baptist did rip it up. Almost all of the liquor was gone but hardly any beer for a September wedding. Pretty impressive performance by friends and family

I had to fly to Denver for one and pay for all that entails like you and they asked me to pick up grandma from the nursing home and bring to the church. A little apprehensive at first but grandma got in the car, pulled a bottle of hot damn cinnamon schnapps from her purse, we both had a long pull and off we went. I even danced with her and several years later returned for her funeral. Funny old broad and she got hammered and didn’t give a shite about the bar. She had her own.

Who did you drink and drive with when you went back for the funeral?

Plenty of weddings are wine and beer with a cash bar for mixed drinks.

You entitled fricks need to pull up your panties and just deal with it.

As long as the wedding party doesnt feel entitled to a really nice present...

Stood in a wedding right after college where the brides mother declared we were having a cash bar to “keep all yalls frat buddies from getting drunk!” She was right, none of us could afford the price of the drinks at the country club. We promptly passed the hat and sent one of the guys to the corner store for cases of cheap beer. That reception turned out WAY WORSE than it ever would have if we had been standing in line at the bar to get drinks. Dude hated his mother in law for years and it almost broke up their marriage.

If I’m cheap because I didn’t have an open bar for 400 drunks I’ll accept that although I like to think of it as an easy decision.

A fool and his money you know the drill.

There are other issues in this besides the non-open bar.

The whole thing was done so cheap but by the end of it I was a little bitter. I didn’t realize I was signing up to work a wedding and reception when I became a groomsman

I really don't get weddings like this. I understand someone lower income still wanting an actual wedding rather than just going to the courthouse. Totally get that. So invite the closest people in your life and have something relatively nice yet intimate.

These DIY weddings where people have all of their family and friends working, making decorations, decorating the place, making food, etc. so that they can still invite 150+ people are absurd. Live within your means.

Some fools negotiate for the caterers to provide the bartenders with a serving fee and you provide the booze. Much more economical

My dad paid for the rehearsal dinner. My in laws paid for most of the wedding. What kind of cheap do you have to be to not pay for the bar if necessary? It’s your only financial contribution.

Meh...to each his own. Your money. For all we know I might have been one of the 2/3 bellied up to your bar- being I’m not Baptist.
