career advice from the OT heathens (teaching related)

So i had an interesting dilemma fall on my lap yesterday. I'm a math teacher (lol teacher I know) and track/cross country coach in Wichita, KS. I just picked up a side job working with a NAIA team in town that should be pretty dang good this year. A buddy of mine I ran with in college is an assistant at a JUCO in NC (Raleigh area), their HC got another job and he's presumably next in line to take over. He's offered me his current job which pays 10k plus what I would make salary wise teaching. I looked into it and the teaching salary in the area I would be working is comparable to Wichita (same to a little bit more), so I would essentially be making 10k more a year. The main draw back is this late in the year the district I work for could petition to have my license revoked which would cause me to go through the whole applying headache again in NC. Also I feel like I'm just getting settled in and happy here and making some really good connections. What would you do?
Pros to taking job:
Making more money
Live in a bit of a nicer area
Better look on the resume long term
Cons:
Have to get resettled at a new place I've never been and know very few people
Could get current teaching license revoked
Likely burn some bridges here with current job situations due to timing
I'm not really expecting very many serious responses but just looking for whatever few outside opinions I can get.

if coaching is your passion, run with it. don't turn down a job at the next level when you have a chance to grow in the sport.

Im no teacher, but I would say if you are happy where you are at don’t go burning any bridges unnecessarily. It would be different if you were unhappy. Also, have you crunched the numbers? How much of that 10k will you actually see after taxes, etc? Would health insurance be the same? my wife took a new job where health insurance was $300 more a month, so the initial upgrade in pay she received was way less than we thought. Just a few things for you to ponder

In the long run the headache of reapplying is worth it if coaching is what you want to do. Long term gain counts more than short term pain.

What is your heart telling you to do? Follow your heart. I always say a prayer to the lord and ask him for his guidance for decisions like this.

Plus Pedro, how about years you have in Wichita towards any retirement

Raleigh would probably be in my top 5 places as far as weather, size, things to do, etc. Wichita not so much.

You should take a new job for more money and the extra challenge. Don't take one without the other.

What bridges are you concerned about burning? DO you think if NC didn't workout or it isn't what you hoped you would return to KS?

So because you want to better yourself, and are moving in the summer, they would attempt to revoke your license?
I can kinda understand if this happened during the school year. But they have plenty of time to replace you (assuming you resigned pretty quickly).
Do you want to teach at a junior college? Are you qualified to teach at a junior college? Do you even need a state license to teach at a junior college?

apparently there's a cutoff date of June 1st in our district to where they can petition your license if you leave due to the amount of time to replace you or something like that. I've only been here a year so retirement isn't really an issue. I would be teaching high school in Carolina still. No interest in teaching college level. I am very happy here though. I honestly love Wichita and have just started building some good relationships. It's not like I was unhappy here and was looking to leave which is what's making this kind of tough for me.

Wow. Down here, they won't even consider doing that unless you leave during the school year. How likely is it that the state would actually honor the petition and revoke?
Do you have any interest in coaching at a 4 year college one day? If so, this might be a good path to get there?

For out-of-state teachers, North Carolina offers the SP1 Professional Certification and the SP2 Professional Certification. If you have completed a teacher preparation program, fulfilled examination requirements, acquired a valid certification in your state, but have completed less than 3 years of experience, you will apply for an SP1 Certification. If you have completed 3 years or more of teaching experience, you will need to apply for an SP2 Certification. For more information about the process of certification, explore the North Carolina State Board of Education website, or call 919-807-3310.
