Places that do not accept cash, only accept cards… and then charge a 4% fee for cards.

How is this legal?

By the way, this was at a government owned facility.

It’s called passing the buck, Baw.

That’s what the card companies charge them to get their receivables from card transactions. Then you pay it for them.

If you hire shitty employees you have plenty of money do you don’t need to pass on the fee.

I thought the fee was capped at 3% and couldn't be applied to debit cards

You want taxes to pay the fee? I'm confused here. Who's gonna pay it if not you? If a government entity pays it then where would it come from? Or do you think the huge infrastructure and people that do card processing is somehow free?

No.

What one wants is the ability to pay cash or check.

Only offering card payment whilst charging a fee for said payment is insane.

Literally retarded.

I'd pitch a fit of seventy different colors.

I don't disagree. Curious if the reason is theft or just the ease of using cards.

Cash is legal tender.

To refuse cash and charge a fee for a card, well, that there is theft. Especially as any level of government run office.

Thank Dodd Frank, it "helped" consumers, right? Limit transaction fees, set other limits, and you start seeing signs on minimum transaction limits, etc.

That was 2010, and it's just now tracking for you.

Examples?
In my world many businesses charge a fee for credit card payments but I can't recall any business that requires payment only by credit card.

Examples?

The easiest one I can remember that I walked by multiple times a day was an ice cream/gelato place in La Centerra. it closed down two years ago, but it never accepted cash.

They do it as a way to prevent theft, but it's really just saving time on someone that has to reconcile the register vs. to books.
