Took my car in for service today and the dealer has one car on the lot (Acura Dealer). Spoke to salesman I bought last 2 cars from, He says they can get them but it’s a 3-6 month wait time. I didn’t ask about how much over MSRP they charged. He also said there is no sign of it letting up over the next year or so.

I ordered a new F-150 in February and finally got the email that it's scheduled to be built next week. I don't think it'll arrive until August/September.

I went to the Chevy dealership and they had a steady line of Silverados coming in. I ended up getting one of those because that's what I've always driven and I got impatient waiting for the Ford.

That said, I asked upfront and they were at least honest and said it'll be the sticker price and there's no negotiating. But they aren't going higher than the sticker.. at the places I went at least.

Bought a new truck yesterday. Got a few thousand off not a killer deal. But happy. The dealers are a pain right now. Especially the ones that add wheels tires and bilstein lift to every truck (toyota dealer) this was 6k extra Well they were 3k lower than any other dealer qnd thats about 2500 bucks worth of parts. But the parts you already paid for with the truck you dont get to keep. frick all that

Hence why this is a horrible time to buy unless you desperately need one.

A car which is considered reliable forever with a little maintenance is worth its weight in gold at the moment.

And OTOH, if you have multiple cars right now and don’t need to buy immediately, you can make a hefty amount dumping a problem car.

My MIL got a huge amount from her dealership for a car that had been a notorious problem to begin with then got wrecked in Atlanta.

I see it as a saving grace for them because the car was way too expensive to be the piece of shite it was for them.

GMC not producing the sierra with auto-drive this year and the wait on the new trucks is about 6 months as well.

Crazy times we are in right now.

Yeah I asked and they didn't have any sort of rebates or anything when I got mine. That said, I knew I was going to pay sticker going in and I was comfortable with that. I appreciated the dealership told me upfront.

I was about to have to sink money into my old Silverado and didn't want to wait indefinitely for the Ford, so I ended up with another Silverado. The only reason I didn't wait is because I didn't have to put anything down to order/reserve the Ford.

I actually got the Custom trim (I'm not an OT baller) that's between the WT and LT. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but has everything I was looking for.

I have gotten a few emails from dealers asking if I am willing to sell my Land Cruiser. Absolutely not.

If you have a decent trade-in, the increased value of used cars offsets the price of new ones

Had a car totaled in February. Took me almost three months to find a replacement. I called every dealer in the state and everyone gave basically two options - either reserve one already on the dealer's build sheet which would be 8-12 week delivery, or order exactly what I wanted and would be 6-8 month delivery- maybe. Just when I was about to put a reserve in I was notified by one of the dealers that they had a delivery coming on my exact vehicle and the customer cancelled the reservation. Was able to get it right off the truck a week later. Absolute luck.

Prob worth grabbing a Silverado at sticker and locking a 1.9% interest rate while you can.

“Decent trade in” is in the eye of the beholder. And this assumes you have the car in front of you that you absolutely want.

Worst case scenario I have in mind is that a car gets totaled (wreck or otherwise) and I have to buy a new one on short notice after either getting fricked by an insurance company or because the cost of repairs is worth more than the car.

My buddy just had to buy a new truck a couple weeks ago. He bought a 2022 GMC. His heated seats, backup camera, and a few other features do not work because the chip that controls them is unavailable. The dealer told him when this chip eventually does become available GMC will issue a recall so he can bring his trunk in to have one installed. No timeframe on when this will happen.

Cars are built. It’s the chips that are missing.

If you plan on getting a new car for each day you wait, add a month to the delivery day.
