Guy at work just bought one from toyota in LC. Did everything over the phone credit wise. Told them he didn't want to be there more than thirty minutes.

He wasn't.

the Tarvers run a solid shop

Toyota kind of has an advantage b/c they simply don't haggle much (i mean this generally as a brand)

At a Honda dealership, I showed the guy I have 800+ credit score, told him I want 0% financing, and $2000 off the price. Simple yes or no.

He came back and said they only finance thru Honda Financial and HF said my credit score was 680. (Which is pure bullshite that there's that big of a margin) Told me they could only take off $500 and it'd be 2.5% financing.

I reiterated what I wanted, and if I didn't get it, I was not buying the car. I hate debt and if I'm agreeing to go into debt, it's gonna be at the price I can afford, or else I simply won't buy.

6 hours later, I drove off in a new Honda with 0% financing and $2000 off.

Now why did it take 3 different salesmen, 25+ "I'll go talk to my manager" lines, and 6 hours of incremental lies for what should've been a 30 min purchase?

this story is fricking amazing

seriously

i'm part of a hated industry too so i try to give the benefit of the doubt, but there are SO many stories like this. it's like these salesmen are legit robots and only have 1 script and don't realize that not everyone is a fricking idiot (b/c that's where they, like many other industries, earn their profits)

I'm not a finance guy, but I've seen enough good ol' baws buying F7,500,000,000s on seven year notes freak the hell out because they have to pay on the vehicle even though it's wrecked because they never got over water.

well i think most people in this thread are obviously not going to get way underwater

salesmen and GAP insurance are crucial issues for people who are idiots (and i got GAP on my first new car b/c i honestly could not afford the hit at the time). that's kind of the point of this thread...too many salesmen at dealerships do that typical sleeze bag routine for people they should just be straight up with (intelligent customers who did research and have top shelf credit), and it annoys those customers

then the dealers and salesmen come on here and talk about how the people want it while not realizing the people who want it are the idiots who aren't posting in this thread

I'm sorry but how are car salepeoples that offer a product that you yourself came to get after you research everything and visit multiple dealerships worse than any southern Baptist preacher with his hand in the pot, lawyer that holds your settlement for his building interest, doctor that knowingly wrongfully prescribes you so you'll come back.

Really dude? You are going with "Some other people are unethical so I am cool with it too."?

Try to get toyota to haggle on a TRD Pro 4Runner right now... in California they are going for almost 10k+ over asking.

i'm not an expert but i think Toyota doesn't really haggle that much as a general premise. they know what they have and who they're selling to. their vehicles are so popular that they don't have to haggle

Toyota also hasn't overpriced their brand, so they don't have to discount to make it seem to the customer they are getting a good deal. Chevy, Dodge and Ford have really caused themselves harm with this model.

On the last car I bought, I paid more than half of the sticker in cash.

When I get in the finance room, the guy offers GAP insurance. I could literally only blink incredulously for 10 seconds before asking how much they were going to charge for it: 7 dollars a month to the note.

fricking insanity.

Yeah, that is a hated industry, too!

About 20 years ago, when both my brothers got killed in a car crash with an 18-wheeler, mom & dad got a settlement of $900,000.

They ended up with only $495,000 after the lawyer took his cut. I didn't hate the guy but it just seemed wrong to me that this previously unknown dude got that big of a chunk off my brothers' death simply for having the paperwork knowledge that my grieving parents didn't have. I should've went to law school instead of nursing school.

Dealer didn't have the one I wanted so they actually ordered it for me. Mine only had 5 miles on it. Ive been the only one to drive it other than it coming out of the factory and then getting shipped.

You sure it didn't just come from another dealer in their network? I understand 'ordering' a vehicle, but for 2 of the 3 I've ordered they simply trade a vehicle with a dealer within a few hundred miles.

This... Toyota doesn't haggle much, and especially with any 4runner.

Well shite, I'd just pay what they're asking and not even start haggling.

What strikes me is with the availability of a smart phone, folks can literally google their monthly cost.

Just focus on the price and have your own financing ready to go.

Are people just that fricking broke they dont give a shite?
