You're getting hosed unless you're renting a luxury vehicle.
Should be cheap alternatives for around $35/day for a corolla or something similar. Try Costco.

It’s a lot cheaper when you are older.
You can often pickup a car on weekends for under 50 a day. But you have to be over 27 (I think that’s the age).
Also, do your weekend rentals from an airport location.

Yeah they totally frick you if you are under 25. I had to rent one for a week or so last summer when I was 24 but he waived the fee since I wasn’t paying anything and was almost 25. It would have been outrageous otherwise

Take an Uber or buy a car.

Where are you renting from?
I rented a car from Enterprise for an entire week and it only cost me 230 with their insurance tacked on.

I rented through Costco recently and the airport fees were higher than the rental. Super cheap.

You’re not 20, though.

Pretty sure you have to be 24 or 25 to rent a car. Or maybe that's when the price goes down? I always use Name Your Own Price on Priceline and get a car for less than $20 a day.

25 is the magic age.
Pro tip: If you need to rent a car from one location and return to another use Enterprise. They don't have the ridiculous upcharge that other car rental agencies charge for this feature.

I rented a Nissan Altima for a 2 week, 4,000 mile road trip not too long ago.
It only cost me $450.
That really isn't that bad.
When I was under 25, I was able to join Hertz's gold club for free and they waived the under 25 charge.

I just rented through Budget a 2017 Corolla for 235 bucks. 6 days.
Edit: NOLA taxes on rental cars are TOO DAMN HIGH.
