Had something sliding around in what I thought was a dash a/c vent. Took it in and the scoped it all and found out it was a quarter under the driver's seat in the vent there. Funny, the sound started happening after I had brought it in after some service before. Rep tells me it'll be $400 to take seat off to get to quarter they had scoped before. I said no, I'll buy a scope and get it out myself, but had some other service being done. Miraculously they were able to retrieve the quarter free of charge after I said no to seat removal

Took my Tundra in because it was making kind of a small rattling/clanking sound. It was under 5k miles at the time.

After an hour they call me back and tell me that these new hybrid motors (twin turbo but has a 40hp hybrid motor as well) make a bunch of funny sounds and that was normal I was like naw, someone else is going to look at that.

Try and make this a short story. Yokem Toyota in Shreveport can eat a penis.

Searched for the truck I wanted for probably a year. Toyota dealership in Shreveport ended up getting the exact truck i wanted. Didn't want to get it there bc they were selling at MSRP and giving no discounts but whatever , most places were doing market adjustments over MSRP at the time and in a year I hadn't founf this color and trim package so I pulled the trigger.

Finance dept. went over some life insurance coverage option I passed on and I bought like a $10 a month maintenance package because you get free oil changes up to 100,000 miles. He didn't go over warranties with me which I was fine because I had no intention of buying a warranty.

I go two weeks and my buyers papers never come in the mail. I call them a few times and the guy apologizes and says he'll mail them. Needed them for tax purposes. Few weeks go by and he never does so I go up there and pick them up. Start looking at them that night and I can't figure out what this $4,800 number on there is. No description of it, just a $4,800 price. Turns out this dude added on a an almost five thousand dollar warranty to my total without telling me.

Dude when i say I was hot I was hot. I thought I was just screwed and had some useless/overpriced warranty. Started looking on the new Tundra Facebook groups and it had happened to a few people and I found out that you can basically sell them back. Didn't realize that was a thing. But that $4,800 added to the purchase price so it increased my not and even though they remove it from the loan, your note doesn't adjust and lower.

When I say I called and ripped them a new one, I freaking ripped everybody in that financial dept a new one. I've never left a Facebook, Google, BBB review in my life, but I left a 1 star review for that dealership on every site I could and mentioned that weasel by name in every one of them. I get hot just thinking about it

Like most things(doctors/health insurance for example) the problem isn't really with the mechanic itself. It's the for profit middle man(service advisor). They put a sales person between you and the mechanic.

The sad part is that it works. 98% of the population can barely open the hood of the car and point out where the battery is.

I bought my truck to All Star Ford at 100K miles and asked them to make me a list of what needed to be done (I already knew what needed to be done - just wanted to troll the service writers while getting my oil changed and tires rotated).

You wouldn't believe the shite they put on there. All shite that should be done at 150K + a ton of bonus material. I called the service writer and said "hey man, I see you told me I need a transfer case flush." He goes on to explain how one of their lead mechanics looked at my truck and told him that was first order of business (LOL)

Not just dealerships...I took my car to a tire place I had often used for oil changes. Mavis had bought them out and replaced the guy who used to manage the place. The new manager presented me with a list of recommended "and very important" things that just had to be done on the car. It was a 20-year old Camry and the quote was for more than the car was worth.

I told him thanks and that I would show the list to my regular (independent) mechanic, which I did. We both laughed at it and then he noted that this was why he had more business than he could handle.

An honest mechanic can make a really good living, as he has, by simoly treating people right.

I bring my work vehicle (Ford) in to the dealership because they work with our fleet service company. I make an appointment online and fill out all the work I need done on the Explorer as required by the online appointment tool.

I arrive at my scheduled time and I say,"Hey, my name is blah blah here for the 9 am." Dude looks at me and says, "ok, gotcha, what do you need done?"

I just shake my head.

Then they tell me they cant do a recall on a trim piece because they dont have a body shop. Apparently Ford mechanics are incapable of replacing a piece of trim. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

plus $275 for balance PER tire. WTF

You can buy a new tire for that. Balance shouldn’t cost over 20 dollars a tire

With all the electronic components in newer vehicles, stealership service departments like to point out "potentially" bad batteries that should be replaced.

I bought my son a Toyota Rav4 for school snd he called me this past summer and said the AC quit working. He lives 3.5 hrs away and I work so I told him the best thing would be to take it to the Toyota dealer and have them look at it. I didnt have the time to find a reputable AC guy so I figured it might cost more but it would get fixed right first time.

The day he took it in I get a call from the Toyota dealer body shop giving me a $3000 estimate for “issues” with the radiator, fan, and condenser coil. When I talked to the rep they said they never looked at the AC unit but saw the prior old collision damage and just jumped straight to that as the source of the problem. And then said they didnt know if that would fix it. I told them I had owned the car for 3 yrs and whatever they were looking at had no bearing on the problem. They never even tried to run the AC or check freon level.
Fast forward, I told my son to go pick it up and we would try something else. I also told him to not pay them a dime since they did nothing.

When he picked it up he got in and turned the AC on and it worked fine. Evidently he had hit some button or something the he didnt realize and there was nothing wrong with it in the first place…

Sad part is that’s been a known defect for years. The 3rd brake light leaks and fries the RF Hub. Same thing happened to my 2014 last year. But I already knew what the problem was.

Yeah I knew what the problem was also. But since it was under warranty, I let them handle it. Next time something goes wrong, and if it's still under warranty, I'm bringing it to a different dealership.

Light cover for fog lights? Are you talking about the clear cover (aka Lens) that goes over the bulb? If so, the "Lens" (or Cover, as you put it) is part of the Fog Lamp Assembly and the lens cannot be purchased separately thru GM.

Must be a Porsche with center lock wheels. Thats why the tires are shot at 10k and the center nut is a PITA. I think Porsche New Orleans charges $150 per wheel surcharge if you have those.

Shocks on my Tahoe went bad (they’re some sort of smart shock). Figured it would be a couple hundred fix, was quoted $3500 at the dealer.

Get fricked.

Regular shocks are going to cost you more than a couple hundred.

And you think Magnarides should be about the same?

$70k rig and he thinks it should be pennies to fix.

Dealers prey on people who are physically incapable or unaware of how to go about doing a lot of these fixes. I had to replace my mass oxygen sensor. $275 for the OEM part because it wouldn't register otherwise. Dealer also had to confirm the part with their computers and install the updated software. It's all a crock of shite.

Dealers really will drag their feet when it comes to warranty work. I saw it all the time. They really don't have enough mechanics to knock out the small jobs that pay almost nothing.

Only time going to a dealer is going to benefit you is when it's clear as day that you have a warranty problem. You will need documentation on every single damn thing you ever did for your car (even if it's DIY like oil changes) or they'll attempt to deny you in some way.

Ford won't pay them to do it due to not having a body shop.

Not necessarily that. Management will push people to do unnecessary expenses "while the car is in the shop". So while you drop off your vehicle for an oil change in the morning, you will always get a call saying "hey we noticed that your cabin filter/intake filter/wiper blades all need replacing soon. Can we do that for you?" and they probably do. At that point you're paying for labor/convenience to do those really easy tasks. You save about half your money on DIY car stuff by taking out the labor cost and using your time.

Replacing a cabin air filter in my car is a pain in the arse. I have to go between my glove box and media center, pull out a panel, remove a stupid clip that needs a flathead screwdriver to take out a cover, take out the old filter and replace with a new filter by folding it all weird, then putting it back together. Takes about 5-10 minutes, depending on how long the clip takes to remove. That will run me $35 at a shop, as opposed to buying a Fram filter from Walmart for $10 and doing it myself.

It is all super simple to do, yes, but some people do not even think about doing that stuff, mostly because they don't know how easy it is. I had to tell my wife to stop taking the car to places because I can do everything she needs regularly done on her vehicle. I just won't do the oil change/rotation because that's a pain in the butt for the amount of time I would be putting in.

Even window switches need to be flashed on the Tech so the body computer recognizes it. Been that way for years.

All to make you have to take it to the dealer.
