St. Landry Parish officials have announced a parishwide suspension of trail rides for the remainder of 2026 following multiple shootings tied to a weekend event near the Yambilee Building and Ag Arena grounds in Opelousas.

During a press conference held Monday, Parish President Jessie Bellard confirmed the decision after authorities investigated two separate shooting incidents connected to a trail ride event over the weekend.

According to officials, gunfire erupted near the St. Landry Parish Ag Arena around 1:45 a.m. Sunday morning. Opelousas Police say two victims suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle. Multiple vehicles and a camper were also struck by gunfire.

Four Suspects Wanted In Connection With Shooting
The Opelousas Police Department has identified four suspects wanted in connection with the investigation:

Brandon Zeno, 27, of Lafayette
Jordan Bernard, 32, of Lafayette
Hakeem Gloston, 24, of Iowa
Shakeal Griffin, 30, of Lafayette

Imagine being a 30 year old man and your weekend consists of shootouts in a side by side on back trails.

Must be nice.

i mean i get what they are trying to do but wtf does no more trail rides mean?

Like i cant take a horse out into the woods?

sorry but St Landry parish sheriffs office does not have the authority to do something like that.

sure they can no give permits for public ones but if i want to go on a trial ride on my horse on private land there is not a god damn thing they can do about it

but that is not even how you stop this shite, you stop it with charging every one of those with attempted 2nd degree murder, handing out life in Angola and make it true hard labor and you blast that shite everywhere. All over the news, all over billboards etc

if they kill someone and are convicted, you expedite the appeals process and you publicly execute them

stop letting the 2-3% of violent people in this country out

the other thing you do is you start a propaganda campaign attacking the whole culture around this type of behavior. stop babying criminal behavior
