I can smell them if there's a lot of them. Mowed over one of the biggest ant piles I've ever seen a few weeks ago. I could smell them. Smells kind of like ripe green onions

Off topic but my wife can smell snakes. She can tell when a snake is near like she is half blood hound.

This isn’t some super human ability. Snakes give off a certain musk when they are alarmed. I can smell them before I see them when I’m cutting grass sometimes

Absolutely, numerous times I have smelled snakes before I saw them.

No. But I'm pretty sure the uncircumcised can.

I can also smell wild hogs if the wind is right.

I wasn’t going to post this until someone else did. I used to hunt alongside rivers in the Delta National Forest a good bit, When you’re walking South to North alongside a river and the wind is blowing straight out of North you smell all kinds of animals. I have smelled deer, wild hogs, armadillos and possums long before seeing or hearing them. It doesn’t work if the wind is howling because mammals won’t move as much due to the noise and wind throwing off their senses. You need a good 5-10 mph steady breeze.

Yes, the small black ants have a black-pepper odor to me. Noticed that as a kid when smashing them between thumb and foreskin…….

Edited to say “thumb and forefinger”.

I can smell them. It’s like a weird, sweet/spice kind of a smell.

Not all the time but definitely if there’s a trail of them or by an ant hill.

No, but I do know that pouring instant grits over a fire ant bed is an easy and effective to kill all of the motherfrickers

Like just the bag? Or do you have to prepare them like you would for yourself?

I’ve been pouring gas and burning them because I’m pretty sure the “poison” I’ve been using is actually healthy food

A pot of boiling hot water will do the same thing. Probably not as interesting-looking, but they’ll be dead just the same.

Pour them over the ant bed like you were pouring them into a pot. Takes about 24-36 hours. They basically eat the grits and explode. Awesome shite!

They can sure smell me. Damn, if I sit anywhere outside in anything with skin exposed, those suckers will find it. Crawling, dropping in, flying in the breeze. Hell, fire ants in the South are like pepper on a stew.

Don’t think I can smell ants but can y’all smell ladybugs?

Those things smell terrible but I have plenty friends who swear I’m insane for knowing what a ladybug smells like

There is a reason they are called " Piss Ants " in the South

In the waaaay back olden days, diabetics spilled glucose in their urine. Ants were attracted to the sugar, hence those so attracted were called pissants.
