re: Can you live in Knoxville Tennessee without a car?

How long are you going to be living in Knoxville? Are you going to have to pay to leave your car in Boston? Will you have issues with residential parking in Knoxville? How far from campus do you think you'll be? What sort of social life do you anticipate having there?

Almost every freshman at UT is there without a car. I just heard that last week and was shocked that that's a requirement.
It's not a requirement, but there are many more freshmen than available parking tags, so most don't get an on-campus parking tag.
They can park off campus though at the off campus commuter shuttle lots and take the campus bus to their car when needed.
UT has a massive parking problem that's not improving any time soon.

Perks of a downtown campus

Yeah... and with the river, the Fort, downtown, and 129 there isn't room to expand horizontally.
And building parking garages at the current parking rates is economically unfeasible.
So... trying to push cars off campus to shuttle lots but that's a big culture shift that hasn't taken hold yet.

I really don’t want to haul my car from Boston to Tennessee next year. I’m in the process of getting a PhD in communications and was wondering if it were doable to use public transportation? Would it be more wise to rent a car instead?

Don't know if you're AI/bot or a human troll, but ffs, come up with something better. The reference to the South gets you a point. Not going to deduct anything for the claim of a pHD in communications since you used a claim most would rightfully ridicule (you sure it's not a EdD in Education? Kind of the equivalent).
Western civilization continues to sink into the abyss.

But public transportation in Knoxville is going to be mostly just city busses.
Mostly? What other "public transportation" does Knoxville possibly have?

Campus busses instead of city busses.

I don’t think you should plan on not having a car because you might want to see some places that are fairly close by.
Asheville, Nashville, Chattanooga, just to name a few.

What exactly does a doctorate in communications get you? Are you a professor? Some of the black dudes I worked with in corporate had phds like that and wanted people to call them Dr.

I don't know. Kids these days don't leave their apartment and just stay home on their phones looking at tik tok all day and play video games.

Sell your car, buy a bunch of blow, meet new friends with cars. You’re welcome.
