re: Can someone please explain to me what's so great about Austin?

Just weird to fixate on the worst part.
Like saying "I hate Bourbon Street" when discussing New Orleans. It's just incomplete that's all.
The traffic thing is so overrated. When I lived by Audubon it took me just as long to get around, mostly because of the small streets, stop signs, and without fail, some dude doing 25mph down Tchoupitoulas.
Now if you live out in Round Rock that's when you'll notice a real difference, but that's why I don't live out there, however, even that traffic doesn't compare to DC or other metros.

Went to El Naranjo. It was legit.
I always have a great time in New Orleans; in fact, it’s probably my favorite city. We’re just gonna have to agree to disagree on this whole Austin thing. I just don’t get the vibe nor the culture here. Which is ok. Not everybody has to like Austin, just like not everybody likes the places I mentioned.

That's fair. I wasn't berating your dislike of it. That's fine.
You just can't compare apples and oranges, which was the point of my response.
You can just dislike it for what it is, but a South Beach/Vegas comparison is just ridiculous.

Not weird. It's one of the main things it's known for.
My dislike is 100% due to the container laws.
I think the designated party area sucks.
That's all.
I don't live Bourbon, I send everyone to Frenchmen.

Add Vegas to this and you think Austin has d-bags?
We must have a very different definition of d-bags.

Ya container laws are bullshite all over this country. Very annoying.

The last time I was in Austin the traffic absolutely reminded me of Baton Rouge.
The essential problem with Austin is that it's been relentlessly hyped as the coolest goddamn place in the south for at least 25 years and when you get there first time you see that it's crowded as frick, hot, and kinda shitty

That's the thing. I agree with those folks being awful in many ways.
But I don't see how the same person then says Miami/Vegas people don't annoy him too.
They both bother me

You’ve made it pretty obvious.

This OP is incredible
Let's see, I think I'll start with the Kimber Modern, a nice Eddie V's steak with crab, bounce over to the Rose for incredible tits and finish up at Bee Cave to overlook the landscape. Back to the Kimber, please.
Trip Advisor rating TBD.

What’s kinda disturbing to me is the number of bigoted comments as reasons why people don’t like Austin. If someone doesn’t like the heat, traffic, influx of assholes from CA ( I hate this), homeless, liberals, etc. That’s fine. Those are legitimate reasons. However, to say they don’t like it because the people here are weirdos, which translates roughly into people different from them and who don’t share their narrow view of the world, is just plain ridiculous.
Since moving here many moons ago, I have been unpleasantly surprised by the number of people from Louisiana who love to shite on other places (many of which have a high number of Louisiana expats), just to make themselves feel better about being stuck in their crappy state.

I'm not originally from Louisiana, but I like it a heckuva lot more than TX.

You're coming across as a pretty huge queer

I don't think I ever used the word "douchebag." I just don't care for effeminate hipsters in Daisy Dukes.

Yeah, ok.
If anything I come across as homophobic.

If every town was like University Park, he probably wouldn't be saying that. You realize you live in the top .1% of places in Texas?

Pittsburgh, which was rated the #1 city in America multiple times. So try again.

That’s not ridiculous at all. People like to associate with others who share views...typically. I think there are many people who live in Louisiana that recognize it’s downfalls. Just because Austin is ‘better’ doesn’t mean it’s for everyone.
