Are there enough manly men at the pool for you to look at?

Because like San Fransisco and every other liberal Haven, every pussy alive thinks if it's full of liberal milliniels it must be great. Fact is, I never liked Austin one bit.

Hold on...

You are on vacation...

In Austin...

Constantly bitching about there not being anything fun to do in the city...

In which you chose to visit...

And you are hanging out at a gym where your buddy works, and that’s the best thing you can think to do?

Yeah, I’m thinking this is a you problem bro.

It was a great place as late as 25 years ago, when I went to UT. It went downhill after about 2000, and especially once Californians flocked. The traffic is horrible.

More like 2008. It's still pretty cool despite the libs and transplants. It was badass up to that point. Art Acevedo didn't help either.

Austin was great 20 years ago. Now it’s just a regular over crowded city. It’s definitely better than Baton Rouge though.

I'm just wondering if you did anything that was suggested to you on the travel board?

I didnt see anything about going to the blue hole on that thread. But I did see recommendations of going to Lake Travis, Krause springs, tubing the Comal, The San Marco's, or the Guadalupe. I didnt see where you paddle boarded or kayaked Lady Bird Lake. Did you get confused on blue holes, the one in Wimberley is bad arse.
The one in Georgetown is not. Those are all infinitely better water activities then the blue hole. If you want to cliff jump you should have gone to the West side of pace bend park on Lake Travis.

You should have seen the sunset from the Oasis or Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. You should have gone to Jester King, or Deep Eddy. You should have seen the bats fly on South Congress. You should have seen a great music act at any number of places. You should have gone to Rainey Street. I hope you are at least eating some bbq. But you should have gone to Salt Lick in driftwood.

From the little you posted, I dont think this trip was planned very well. I'm no Austin homer (I actually live in Round Rock) but to say Austin is worse then Baton Rouge is trolling.

To each his own. Austin isn’t for everybody, but I’d take a bunch of weirdos in a clean and safe city over dirty streets, out of control crime, and rampant culcha any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. I love Austin. I also happen to love Baton Rouge, for different reasons.

I’ll again point out he’s just trying to fill up a long weekend. As cities go, Austin should be a pretty easy one to have a couple good meals, catch a concert and down some beers. There’s a pretty wide and easily accessible spectrum of options. I’m not trying to move there but I’ve never had a bad visit.

I went by recs of two friends who live here, plus recs of several people I’ve met. Honestly I didn’t check out the travel board, because I don’t ever go to that board. Apparently the thread I posted on the OT got moved to the Travel board. I chose the activities I thought I’d most enjoy. When I inquired about the Blue Hole, I was specifically told Georgetown. Oh well, just ate some solid bbq and now we’re at Top Golf. Looking forward to Hamilton tomorrow, which I’ve been told lives up to the hype. It’s easy to say I shoulda done this and that, but everyone tells me differently; there’s no consensus.

Jesus

I assume you did enough research to know you need a reservation to visit Hamilton Pool?

All solid choices.

It also easy to say a whole area sucks and is overrated when you didn't do the most fun stuff it offers.

Your trip should be rebounding with today's and tomorrow choices.

While Austin is leaps and bounds better than BTR, IMO what makes both cities unique is they are big capital cities that have a “college town” feel and heart.

Austin is much cleaner and more affluent than BTR, but nonetheless their commonality is being major cities where a major university is still the city’s heartbeat.
