Austin is named after Stephen F Austin who was a big time slave owner. He also was involved in politics to keep slavery in the state of Texas.

Not really. But let's all agree there is very little other Texas topography better than the area. Another moron described as 'decent'. Houston, Dallas or insert most any urban city anywhere would kill for it.

Yeah, I can't hang around people who dress like that... sorry. No man has any excuse to wear Chubbies, ever.

Maybe it is just me, and I'm OK with that. The culture here is just not for me.

Don't have to tell me, the view from my house is fricking sweet after living in Mississippi and Louisiana my whole life.

Oh yeah. The “couple of nice lakes” that we have are all that make this city consistently rated highly on the list of best places to live. You’re pretty clueless dude. LOL

I like visiting Austin but I will agree with you on the homeless thing
It’s even worse in other hipster cities out west...the past year I’ve been to SF, Seattle and Portland and you’re damn near surrounded by homelessness

affordable housing in these boom cities is a huge issue but a big part of the problem is that people relocate to them in order to be homeless...because they can

I lived in Austin for 6 years and it is a very over rated city. Traffic is terrible there. You are basically on house arrest from 7-5 every day or you are wasting your life away in traffic and traffic is getting worse. Public transportation is a joke. Austin is a very expensive city and property taxes are absurdly high. Unless you have a lot of money you will be living in cookie cutter suburb and you might as well live in another state and visit Austin a couple times a year. Living in a suburb is not living in Austin. There is a homeless person at every intersection and downtown is covered by them. The homeless will approach you at post offices, grocery stores, and gas stations. I have seen several people mugged at night when I lived in downtown Austin. Weather is terrible unless you enjoy 105 degree heat 365 days out of the year. If you don’t have allergies you will develop them in a short period of time after living in Austin. Music scene is mostly cover bands playing old songs. Nothing special. City is full of weirdos, gays, freaks, metro men, hipsters, and transvestites. And the city of Austin is named after a slave owner. Like I said, Austin is over rated.

The homeless center is downtown which is why you see them. I think they've tried to move it but you know nobody wants that thing in their neighborhood so there it stays.

The one thing definitely overrated about Austin is it's traffic. It's nothing close to something like DC traffic.

True, and true for just about every city that boomed after the invention of the car.

The homeless will approach you at post offices, grocery stores, and gas stations.

I get this way less than I did in New Orleans by far. I'd suggest not pumping gas at the Shell in East Austin by the I35 overpass, but that's about it.

All true.

There is a homeless person at every intersection

This is now a national phenomenon.

Hyperbole but it's hot as frick right now.

Austin is a normal city that acts weird.

New Orleans is a weird city that tries to act normal sometimes.

Ok John Rocker.

I'm not sure you can avoid what you want to avoid in any major metro.
