A defensive end (in high school) can work on his feet work playing basketball. I've heard this said and I am not an expert, but I think the idea of playing other sports is to develop other skills.
Your son is a kicker right? So I am sure he only needs to play soccer.

why is money in quotes?
Because sometimes the travel moms pay with a different type of currency.

correct....its to limit overuse injuries and to expose the body to different movement patterns.

Go look at a High School team that wins more than 10 games a year. Count the number of Rec Ball kids that actually make the team and the number of Rec Ball kids in the starting 9.

You know there is a bunch of scandalous thunder sticking going on in those hotel rooms. That is one thing for sure.

I'm just in here to crack wise about the arguments. It's all in fun.
I had twin daughters who rode horses so my deal was different than big teams with ego-driven coaches and parents.

Define "too much" please.

They won state, he was the best kid on the team by far. The coach was pissed because he was missing practice and games due to another sport. The other sport’s main competition season is during school soccer playoffs and he was winning those national competitions. He quit to continue on in that sport.

These threads never disappoint. It’s like anything else, there are varying degrees, some good and some definitely not good. Some coaches doing it for the right reasons, but make no mistake, it’s a business. Kids “private training” at 6-8 years old is comical, but if it’s what you want to do with your kid, then by all means go do it. Most of the kids burn out somewhere around 10-12 years old and walk away from baseball for good which is sad. And yes my son played local travel and had fun and didn’t suck, but decided last season that he did not want to play anymore. Either way I applaud parents for putting in the time and effort with their kids..

want to talk about expensive....travel sports has nothing on rodeo or equestrian sports and nothing on competitive dance/cheer/gymnastics

There a travel ball coach that works out at my gym every morning. Don’t have to be gay to admit the dude is middle aged, in shape, and put together.
Around 8am the group of suburban breast implanted wine moms come in. Just the way they interact with each other, I garuntee you he’s f’ed at least a couple of them. I can imply from some of the conversations he coaches their boys.

Football doesn’t start here until Jr High…when I think kids should play sports all year around in season for each sport. Only some sports work where you can multiple, and football…basketball..track all run back to back. Baseball kids can’t play anything else…can’t do soccer and basketball, can’t do golf and football, it’s tennis or soccer.

It's extremely obvious to recognize which posters are idiots that have no idea what "travel ball" is like. Yes everyone would like it to be the way it was when you grew up, but it's not, and it's not going back that way. If your kid is even halfway decent, you can't play rec ball.
95% of "travel ball" teams, aren't traveling anywhere. Teams in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Lafayette, they don't have to go anywhere outside the area to play every weekend. If you are in Houma/Thibodaux, or Hammond, then yeah, you're going to do a bit more traveling. Most play 2 weekends in a row, then take a weekend off, then 2 weekends in a row, then a weekend off, and do this from March to June, playing around 10 tournaments. Some end in a World Series in Branson or Pigeon Forge, which is fricking expensive and i'm not doing that crap, some just play a "world series" in Lafayette or Gulfport".
The vast majority of these teams pay under $2,000 after all the fees and uniforms and what not.
The one thing that aggravates the crap out of me is paying $10/day to watch my kid play. I already bought an assortment of wrist bands for $7 on Amazon and will be the cheap dickhead that gets in without paying as often as I can. 2 parents, 2 days each weekend, 10 weekends, $400 fricking dollars to watch my 11 year old play baseball? frick that. and they hide it under the guise of its for whatever charity that weekend. Sorry but i don't want to donate to the charity, and i don't give a shite what anyone has to say about that. Basketball entrance fees are even worse. Soccer on the other hand, is free to watch your kids play. All three of those sports cost about the same to play "travel ball", and are all similar in format, but all you hear people bitchign about it is "travel baseball". Travel basketball is 10x's worse than travel baseball in every possible way.
If I can watch the game from outside the park from the outfield without paying to get in, I will. I can't stand being around most of the parents, the idiotic arguing from coaches over calls, and the general atmosphere of the sport. Nothing irritates me more than some dumbass mom playing whatever new rap shite, or new country rap shite over her giant speaker every second she can between innings and breaks. I love that OTC doesn't allow this.

The fun thing about travel ball, is that when a family has boys and girls, the dads usually go with the boys, and the women with the girls. Next time there's a girls volleyball tourney at George R Brown, spin by the restaurants/bars on the first floor of the Marriott Marquis in Houston. Full of women a little bit too made up "for" the other team moms.

tale as old as time, doesnt mean there is some swinger culture in travel baseball
husband gets fat...treats wife like shite...his idea of romance is laying in bed and leaning over and saying...wanna do it...then wonders why wife cheats with good looking in shape guy....yea happens every day. not a travel ball thing
