That shite is going to move, delaminate and crack due to moisture...

What if I use one of those tile underlayments that helps prevent cracking due to movement? Think that'll help?

This will not answer your question, but when I worked in the building permit and inspection department for iberville parish (back in college), the building inspector wouldn't require people to get permits if they were adding on or building something on their property.

But in the city limits, the cities/towns had different restrictions.. Because it was a revenue stream for them. They required people to have a permit for doing any type of work and the inspector would ride around and look for people doing work to make sure they go buy permits..

Anyway, I would be surprised if they require you to get a permit. Just build it and the worst that can happen is an inspector comes by and tells you, you need a permit.

If you're gonna do it like that, use polymeric sand between the tiles. I'd suggest a slab. It'll be much less likely to sink or raise with the water table

His construction was very solid as he's got an engineering degree and all.

It's just something that snowballed b/c he's kind of naive and nice and people like Terd just POUNCED on him. The more he questioned why, the more worser it got.

The wood is going to expand and contract a lot due to moisture. A slab would be much cheaper than tile and decking but if you want a nice deck why not install a premium wood like Ipe?

Because this is the OT and you can be perfect, do everything perfect, etc and you will still be told how horrible you are and how much you suck.. But Dill is a dumbass.. So it probably wasn't as much about the pergola as it was about just having a reason to frick with him.

A truer statement has never been typed.

Or, you know, they make you tear it down because you didn't realize it doesn't meet code because you didn't have a permit.

You don't want a pic of the mom, you don't have the patience for the sister, and the grandmothers have all been deceased for quite some time. Probably not much you can do there.

You should take out the wall between the kitchen and living room for a more open concept
