Louis, the guy who owns Itlalian Dist. on Tchop and Royal Street. He was arrested a few years ago for that prostitution sting in the Quarter. I forget his last name, maybe Marcotte, but I could be wrong.

The ex-bail bondsman, Louis Marcotte, who was mixed up in the Jefferson Parish judges scandal?

A relative of mine lived in the house next to Carlos’ house in Marrero and was good friends with him. He’s a Provanzano, which were a mob family some time ago in New Orleans. I don’t know his involvement in any of that stuff though.
I know the house you're talking about.

My cousin, the baker, lived on the other side. That house has been razed. :(

other than one of the top top dawgs in the pilot assoc. lived two doors down from carlos and they were casual aquaintences...nothing

I have heard that one of the first meetings every new governor of LA takes is with the river pilots. Apparently a large cash only "campaign contribution" is made to each newly sworn in governor.

That area of the West Bank is my old stomping grounds. Parents were cool with us (me and friends) riding our bikes anywhere between Destrehan and Barataria as long as we didn't cross the Expressway. LOL.

Cousins lived on Ave. F, but only saw the bakery cousins at the bakery. His sisters forced him to sell, a few years ago. But he's still baking at the Bistro Cafe near the corner of Barataria and Lapalco.

Charles Matranga started the New Orleans mafia. He was an Arbereshe (Albanian) from Sicily. At the time the mafia were known as "Stuppaghieri"

Many of my ancestors were Arbereshe from Sicily.

Well they make more money than doctors. Why would it be surprising that a lender would more easily approve them for a loan? That's literally how banking works

The Provenzanos and Matrangas brought the Mafia into the US thru New Orleans back in the late 1860s - early 1870s.

They don't exactly advertise it, but the Landrieus are descended from the Matranga family.

The Marcellos still run Ascension Parish. Most went semi-legit after Carlos was exiled by JFK.

Well... I’m going to go ahead and use an alter for this, but my family on my mom’s side was very connected as recently as 10-15 years ago. A family name that many people here probably know.

It’s a Sicilian name. My grandfather was in construction, he would build houses and my grandmother would “sell” them for exorbitant amounts. He was connected to the point that he even had a special pass to enter Marcello’s property any time, any where. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed before I was born. However, his brother and the other side of the family took up torch at that point. Last I had a chance to talk to one of them, they’re still in “real estate.”

The entire family lives or lived in Harahan. They even have several streets named after them. If you’re in the know, you won’t have to guess the family I’m referring to.

This thread is even more entertaining than your usual mob thread because we've somehow mixed river pilot discussion into it as well. The mob and river pilots: the OTs two most knowledgeable subjects.
