Let’s start with some kind of solutions and not just throw our hands in the air and say Jesus take the wheel.
Until you can fix US monetary and immigration policy and stop the influence of international NGOs, private equity piracy, global corporatism, and crony capitalism, there’s isn’t much that’s going to reverse the trends we’re seeing. These kids were already dealt a shitty economic hand and COVID made it even worse.

I won’t admit that because it’s not true. I made $40,000 in 1992 when my fourth kid was born. We have had 231% inflation since then, so I was earning $90k in today's dollars. I was the only means of support for a family of six with no savings. And we did fine.
A welder, making $30 per hour, will make $82,000 per year by working 20% overtime (that’s 48 hours per week) That’s over 90% of what I made, in equalized dollars. If that welder’s wife does not work, and he has two kids instead of my four, he’ll get by better than I did. But that means: no vacations, no eating out at restaurants, no paying for streaming, no brand new cars, etc.
Man up! I did.

That's what you need to understand about them. When they were young they rejected their parents, now they reject their children. They want to enjoy themselves unencumbered by unchosen burdens. They will largely live isolated and dedicated to themselves. Millennials are similar and will attempt the same when their time comes.

They need to stop being 'trendy'
Its stupid to get roped into massive credit card, auto loan, oversized house loan, and student debt
Buy essentials, invest in your future. Because no matter how hard you work, going in debt to make corporations insanely wealthy is beyond stupid

Choose the right degree. Mine was lucrative.
Boomer advice.

See my post right above yours. I loved my parents, and I love my children. All four of my kids are doing better than I did financially at their age.

Wow. How in the hell did you come to believe this?

Current generations maybe, but the messaging to my generation was college or bust since birth. Remind me the messenger again?

It's a great time to be a blue-collar worker. Electricians, plumbers, mechanics make bank. The problem is people don't like to work hard, study and do the right thing.

Sorry, I should have specified what is he personally going to do?
If he thinks he can’t do anything, maybe someone else can give him some solutions?

Those are going to be the only things that will have any significant effect on the situation. It’s nice to clean up your community and all but when the govt turns up and dumps 50,000 Haitians in your 35,000 person town, it’s not gonna matter much.

Well then move. That’s a possible solution to explore.

Don’t see opportunity where you are, well move…..
This is the mindset that created America.

Again, zero solutions. Just bitching.

I’m almost starting to believe that this is the ultimate goal of the people making these decisions. Force people to constantly move so they can never have roots in any one spot and develop a local culture and community. There are a hell of a lot of people that don’t have the luxury of being able to completely uproot their entire lives and move because the federal government decides to target their area for dropping off foreigners and destroying their community.

Yep. As a whole, they’re strictly transactional people who’ve had the financial ability to look at the world as nothing but numbers. No ties to community or anything bigger than themselves.

Perhaps they are the ones who convinced our parents, grandparents , Aunts, Uncles, mentors and teachers.
I guess we should have had the foresight at 11 to shun all the grownups around us and opted for the welding academy.
