re: Who is buying all the trucks?

If you’re in the PMC or get your income from capital you’re doing pretty good. It’s the people that are in the working class that are hurting, and they don’t impact demand because they were never buying new trucks to begin with.

Uncle Ted has some good points but I think Wendell Berry, Jacques Ellul, and Ivan Illich are better at stating the problem with technological advancement. And they are much better at finding a solution that doesn’t promote violence.
It's worth it. Use a VPN to change your location to Peru and get it for $7.
My FIL has never paid taxes, and the biggest impact is he is not able to collect social security. He's probably missing out on more than he would have ever paid in, but the IRS is just going to wait until he dies and collect from his estate.

A good illustration of why CPI doesn't really capture why the middle class is feeling such a pinch. Non-optional spending such as housing, education, food, medical has gone up, but it's balanced by cheaper consumer goods. Let them eat computer chips, I suppose. You have to keep in mind that CPI is a tool the fed uses to set interest rates, it doesn't reflect the actual inflation rate felt by your average consumer.

$20k a year was good money in 1974 if you could find it. The labor market was crowded. Union insulator helpers made $5 per hour, and I thought that I had a summer job as a helper. I would have been "rich" with that kind of money in college

20k in 1974 = 130k in 2025 dollars

5/hr = 31.28/hr

100% isn’t for me.

Which, I never understood why people get so bent out of shape for me saying that. If it’s for you, go ahead and knock yourself out. I know it isn’t right for me, so I’m not going to marry someone I know isn’t right out of pity.
Of course it’s intentional. Roads pretend to be public utilities but their primary purpose is segregation.

I could never bring myself to actually do it, but always dreamed about living between Dubai and Costa Rica and paying no taxes. I have several British coworkers who do just that and it works out pretty well for them.
Electricity is about to get expensive like housing. Not everyone will get to run the A/C.
Sounds like what few developers were trying to get away with in Tangipahoa. 500 trailers squeezed on 74 acres without proper roads and utilities. Move on quickly and let the parish sort out the mess.

People will do whatever is easiest. If there’s a robust network of bike lanes and you’re protected from cars then people will use it. It’s difficult to create a network with just a little piecemeal approach, so you end up with tiny unused sections that go nowhere.
We had a guy with a remote position that just stopped working after finding another job. It took a year to fire him. If you're willing to burn bridges being overemployed is the way to go.
Yea. Resume needs to be in an ATS-friendly format that can be properly read by applicant tracking systems. Use ChatGPT to review your resume alongside a job description for suggestions on improvements, but don't copy text directly from ChatGPT, your resume should be genuinely personalized.

You'll need to be able to pass the AI keyword check and then be able to pass the soft skills/vibe check from recruiter before you ever talk to a real person about the job.
A lot of the jobs you apply for might be ghost jobs, or they might be real but the company isn’t in urgent need, so they can afford to be very, very selective. The best thing you can do is lean on your professional network rather than job postings. Very few people are able to get a job from just applying.

It’s rough out there, though. I had a job I was well qualified for and went through two interviews for, but they ghosted me after the second interview. Now I see that the job has been posted again. I suppose I was a poor interview. There's a lot that has to go right to find a job and there are plenty of pitfalls at each step.
It will get better with a new administration that walks back the tariffs.
Not really. What do you think most people are in prison for if not violent crimes like rape and murder?

For the “POWERFUL HEX SPELL,” I had to provide Kirk’s date of birth for “accuracy.” The witch performed the hex, but her response was unsettling: “I just completed your spell, and it was successful. You will see the first results within 2–3 weeks. However, I did notice disturbances… negative energy not only from you, but projected at you. Likely from toxic family members, co-workers, or new acquaintances.”

I think they are messing with powers that they would be better off leaving alone. There's always a cost to a curse.
