no, they have already pictured each other having intercourse together in their head. it's only a matter of time before on of them makes a move. time and opportunity key here. don't give it to your S.O. when the friend is in question.

A “close friend” of the opposite sex is no big deal till they’re banging. And the longer they’re friends the likelier it is they’ll hook up- if they haven’t already.
Trouble is, you open a whole can of worms when you start trying to dictate who your SO can and cannot have relationships with.

I've had one close female friend in my lifetime and eventually we ended up sleeping together. I don't think it usually works long term, particularly if there's any physical attraction.
