Two campaign staffers have been fired after one of them wore a charcoal face mask on social media.

The Pritzker campaign said the social media post was not done with any racist intent, but not everyone is buying that explanation.
At a downtown fundraiser, Pritzker's running mate State Rep. Julianna Stratton responded to the situation.
"We had two staffers who exercised poor judgement. There was an investigation made. We immediately suspended them without pay and, after further investigation, they were terminated," she said.

The unidentified campaign worker who posed for photo was wearing a charcoal exfoliating face mask; according to the campaign, it was not blackface.
In a statement the Rauner campaign called the actions of the Pritzker campaign offensive and disturbing.

The previous call on the field of blackface is under review.
ETA: After further review the blackface penalty is upheld.

What happened to suspensions, reprimanding, and teaching experiences? Why does everyone have to get fired when they screw up like this?

So wearing an exfoliating mask is racist now

Completely acceptable and funny for black people to do white face

What is the context/circumstances the person was wearing the charcoal mask. Certainly there are contexts where doing so could invoke the racism of blackface, but most contexts would be completely innocent. I didn't see anything in the report on why people thought this was related to race/blackface. Did I just overlook something?

This is a new trend. There is nothing racist about it.

Would that not be offensive to people who identify as lizards/reptiles?

The article doesn't seem to mention the context or motivation for why the picture was posted.

"Offensive and disturbing"
Get fricked.

You know, I hadn't considered that. I'd like to personally apologize to anyone who may have been offended by my remarks and take this moment to announce that I am stepping down from my position effective immediately. I will also be making a sizable donation to charities that help and promote trans-reptilians both in the US and around the world.

It's a charcoal mask, no? Many people I know have worn these.
