You know what they could use right there? A DSLD subdivision and a McDonald's

An AI Data Center on the edge of the cliff would be much better because those things need water IMHO.

You don’t feel like you’re in Texas when you’re at Big Bend.

You border wall idiots want to ruin a beautiful national park for 11,823 people crossing? Seriously? You think it is worth it? There is already technology there monitoring the border which you obviously had no clue about. Daddy Trump tells you how to think after all.

I’m surprised so many on here support the wall in this area.

I voted for Trump, but I’m also capable on independent thought. This section of the wall ain’t it. I’m sure many in LA wouldn’t want the beautiful Atchafalaya ruined because of something silly like this. A wall in Big Bend won’t exactly take traffic down to zero anyway. These guys build tunnels.

Leave Big Bend alone. Between planned communities run by Blackrock, data centers and the like, our beautiful landscape is getting ruined one acre at a time.

Because Democrats changed. As recent as 30 years ago, they were against open borders and illegal aliens.

As recent as 40 years ago Republicans were for amnesty supported by Reagan and passed an act granting it.

What local communities are at risk? You told us the area is inhospitable 6 months out of the year. And how would a wall or some other obstruction devastate those communities?

And they'd be building the wall in the sky? How would that work? That wouldn't even make sense...I'd think they should just build the wall on the ground.

Lasers, cameras…

Wait until the board finds out about the unmanned border crossing at Boquillas.

There’s a lot more at risk than this with unfettered illegal immigration.

I’m firmly against illegal immigration. I’ve also been to Big Bend, hiked Santa Elena, and waded in the Rio Grande Hot Springs. Border Patrol and park rangers are insanely active in these areas and there’s surveillance everywhere.

Pretty sure it’s manned 24/7 now. Just closed for crossing after 5pm

Build it. Any that cross the Dems will fight and scam to keep and allow them to have children here, so we have to improve stopping them from coming in the first place. Expanding the boundaries of some of nearby military bases to cover some sections was a good move, but more has to happen - border wall, fixing the amnesty loophole Dems have promoted to help illegals exploit since Obama, and reforming B1** visas being abused by Indians and others to create paths to immigrate and citizenship for their people back in their home country.

Wait until the kids born here from the illegals Obama and Biden’s Autopen allowed in can start to vote. They will vote to allow their parents to be citizens. Obama’s biggest surges were after he got re-elected, but he has some starting next year. It’s never just been about importing future Dem voters with the illegals finding ways to vote and eventually getting amnesty and a path to citizenship, but it’s also about their kids. It may be too late unless the supremes undo the mess supremes of the past did with birthright citizenship for the children of illegal criminals crossing on border.

fell nearly 70% from a 2021 peak of 37,266 to 11,823 in the 2023 fiscal year that ended September 30.

Because Biden’s Autopen was waving them in at checkpoints up and down the border. There was less need to use this area under Biden’s Autopen. Why sneak in when you can be allowed to walk in, claim an obviously fake amnesty, get govt help, and a temporary work ID and protections with extensions based on made up reasons by Biden’s Autopen.

The title of your included article states this, and you left it out for that reason.
quote:

Number of migrants crossing in the Big Bend drops sharply as other sectors see surge

Also in article
quote:

Luedecke and others see a range of reasons for the decline in migrants crossing in the Big Bend, from changes in border policy that have drawn migrants seeking asylum toward crowded ports of entry to cartel feuding south of the border.

Either it's a national park or it's not. If a POTUS can build a wall on it for his own political ambitions, why can't another turn it into a theme park?

New plans to build a border wall through one of country’s iconic national parks, Big Bend National Park, risk permanent damage to the area. The things that trigger the herd of sheep is absolutely amazing. You have to wonder if they have any grey matter at all.
