Newsome also announced he is ordering the release of 18000 prisoners by end of August. The guy is clueless.

They do control how schools will run and if the Superintendents feels the pressure from the majority of their teachers they will bow.

Agree, and even though it’s a minority of teachers and the union wanting to keep schools closed, they are the most vocal. It’s ridiculous. How are we, as teachers, any better than healthcare workers, store employees, and countless others who have worked throughout this thing? We’re not. Let’s go to school. If you are a teacher that is over 60 or high risk, take medical leave if you truly fear for your health.

We are going to be feeling this for years to come. What happens to the income gap when upper middle class-upper class people can still afford private teachers for their children, middle class people could probably hire a private teacher among friends, and the lower middle class to lower class can’t afford to do any of this? Where will these kids turn to with nearly a year off of school? Gangs of course. There is going to be some slang in the next few years about people too poor or stupid to get an education during this time and were left behind.

Like half of Los Angeles county kids did not show up for these virtual courses. No, they need to be in the schools, have some person in their 20s and 30s come proctor the class if the teacher doesn’t feel safe, and then have the teacher go virtual. They have to return to school.

Politicians (and liberal county judges in Texas) are taking this out of the hands of the superintendents and local school leaders.

They are closing all schools. That way one district won’t feel pressure or criticism if a couple of neighboring districts open. Maybe more importantly, private schools are also forced to closed.

The power of teacher’s unions will crumble if there is a revolt by their less radical rank and file, private school enrollment increases, and more parents flee urban school districts.

Ordering all schools over a wide area protects those districts from criticism, and eliminates choices for parents.

Not true, the majority of surveys show teachers want to return to in classroom instruction. That's the majority, the teachers unions in Louisiana are the minority but they are vocal, however, change from what we've been told and you will see more teachers stand up against the union and districts.

Correct but only for Covid related illness, essentially from my understanding if you catch it and have to go to the hospital you are covered since teachers only get 10 days (7 sick, 3 personal) a year.... If your doctor clears you then you report back to work or if you have a negative test after 10 days
