Calcasieu DA allowed people to buy out of community service

So katc just published an investigation article on a program by the Calcasieu parish DA, John Derrosier that allowed people to purchase gift cards to get out of community service.
The cards were then donated to the DAs non profit. Problem is there was no accounting of the gift cards and no paperwork. Employees were instructed not to keep an audit of them.

Some shady bullshite if you ask me. He talks about audits when interviewed but when katc filed a FOIA request, they said it was a verbal audit only, whatever the hell that is.
Honestly this is very very unethical and he should step down imo. And his comment about being able to change a judge's order of community service is telling. Typical corruption BS.

I get that, but atleast there is accounting for that.
We are talking hundreds of thousands in gift cards unaccounted for. No audit. No paper trail, no nothing.

That’s pretty damn bad. Changing the Judges order alone is a big deal. But doing it with disappearing gift cards? Someone is going to jail. Federal jail.

Hell, I'd pay for some gift cards to get out of some community service. I bet had made a nice little bonus from that.

If an investigation was done into every public office in Louisiana (even throughout the country, but especially in Louisiana) and all the "shady bullshite" came out, this would be peanuts compared to all the other shite that goes on.

Letting people buy their way out isn’t necessarily an issue.
A total lack of accounting for where those gift cards went? Not so much. I think we all know those just went straight into the DA’s pocket.

I get it might be peanuts on comparison but as the elected DA he has a duty to not allow things like this on his watch, especially to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
He also is way over the line with his comments about being able to change a judge's sentence is bullshite

Correct. But it is an issue without letting the judge know. The one judge they interviewed said he was just finding out about this.
But not tracking those gift cards brings up....quite frankly could be criminal.

The type of people that they probably require to sign off are not the type of people to commit perjury I'm sure. I doubt Billy Bob in the trailer down the street can sign off.
