i'm saying this in defense of the judges, not to criticize them

Me posting that was not critical of them in that regard, more the opposite. Why would the DA think it's ok to not share that with them?

SFP what is your opinion on this if you can give it?

As far as fake news media....wtf are you talking about? This is a local outlet, that interviewed the DA who readily admitted he had the program, he would continue the program and that there was zero accountability of what was coming in and out and to who. It literally can not be fake as they admitted it and think they did nothing wrong.

That's the edited and scrubbed version, so yes, that's what he said. I've personally seen this same news outlet spin stories to fit their agenda so I take it with a grain of salt.

The judge/magistrate/hearing officer, ordered community service, the one carrying out the order decided the community would benefit from the gift card service more than a trash pickup crew, I have no problem with that.
He definitely fricked up by not accounting for where the cards went.

At the very least this is a huge conflict of interest having people donate to his personal non-profit. But considering that he went with gift cards instead of any other form of currency exchange makes it all the more sketchy. I wonder what his "salary" is from his non-profit and how much is paid in gift cards.

Eta: Read all the way through and I see how gift cards got started in lieu of Christmas presents for kids.

quote:

“Up until 2015, the gift cards and Christmas toys were being handled by the misdemeanor probation department downstairs,” said DeRosier. “I had an audit done by a CPA firm to determine what we had in gift cards, and I was concerned because we had a significantly large amount in gift card value.” DeRosier says the audit is what led him to create the non-profit.

So he saw the audit and saw a way he could get a slice of the pie.

So I wanted to bump this post with the new kplc investigation links

LINK

Original Washington post article that started everything.

LINK

Personal opinion is there needs to be a state or federal investigation. Plenty enough smoke for that and if, the articles are correct, there should be charges filed against all of those in office.

Yea I do not understand how at least an investigation does not come out of that article.

At the very least IRS issues should come up. The conflicts of interest and blatant disregard for the judges is what blows my mind.

His stance lately makes it seem like he really does feel untouchable. All the shite with his step son, the billboards, the lace investigation, this amongst all of the other BS he has pulled has to eventually add up.

If anyone worth a damn runs against him, I have to think he will get killed. Corruption in the highest law enforcement officer in the parish should not be accepted.

The gift cards that Kenneth bought for the DA’s office in lieu of community service ended up in some odd places. In November 2014, four months after he purchased them, the three $200 cards he bought were redeemed at the Walmart in Sulphur, a town in Calcasieu Parish. But whoever redeemed them didn’t spend them. Instead, the three $200 cards were exchanged for six $100 cards. Two of those cards were then used two weeks later at a Walmart in The Woodlands, Tex., 143 miles away. Another was used in West Orange, Tex., 28 miles away. The other three were used in Lake Charles and Sulphur.

More interesting is what happened to the $40 card. More than four years after it was purchased, the card was used in the small town of Eunice, La. Whoever used it bought, among other things, denture cream, two knives, over-the-counter heartburn medication, rice, vanilla wafers, bread, coffee products and K-Y lubricant.
