If you really want to quit then go cold turkey

Maybe I worded my post wrong. I’m not sure quitting entirely is the goal. But I’d like to remove the dependency on caffeine. If I want to skip coffee a day or two I’d like to do that without paying the price. I’ve made a few changes in my life lately. Lost about 20 lbs, still got another 10-15 to go. Quit dipping tobacco about a year ago. Reduced alcohol intake a lot. Just had too many vices and coffee is another one I’d like to at least reign in. I’ve been intermittent fasting and not eating till later in the afternoon. A pot of coffee on an empty stomach was causing some shakes and stomach problems. It’s become a necessity rather than something I enjoy ultimately.

If you are still drinking coffee you should not be having a headache like that. Maybe you should see a doctor.

I’m not going to go to a doctor for a headache unless it gets beyond manageable or persists for longer than a week or two. They’ll find some prescription to replace my caffeine dependency which isn’t any gain anyways.

I drink coffee and lots of it. I drink as little sugar as possible so black plain coffee gets me through wanting cokes and other things. It's not even a caffeine craving as much as liking the flavor and the warmth.

I'm at a little over a pot a day. But if you're dead set against caffeine, I'd just go cold turkey off it and eat like 4 Ibuprofen every 6 hrs or so. Just don't replace caffeine with sugar. To me, sugar was harder than caffeine. Why are you trying to reduce your intake?

Sounds like it’s easier to curb a weed habit than a caffeine habit lol. Only one of these two substances is illegal though.

Fortunately I've always drank my coffee black. Never been a fan of sugar or cream or anything else in my coffee. Don't even like flavored coffee.

Trying to reduce caffeine because I don't like the dependency on any substance really. Summer is coming up, and for whatever reason, hot coffee just isn't what I have been wanting in the mornings. But my current options are to drink it or deal with the consequences. Just want to break the dependency, and enjoy coffee when I want to, and skip it when I don't want any.

I've never smoked weed before. I don't have the desire to start. I don't have a dog in the legalization battle because I wouldn't partake if it were legal at this point. But chemical dependency on caffeine is real.

You sound like a pussy. I’ve been taking 750 mg of caffeine in pill form for 20 years as a performance supplement and there are no negative affects

Some of y’all are so fricking dumb it has virtually no benefits and if you use it every day you feel like a zombie that just got beaten over the head with a hammer when you’re not on it. No reason to drink caffeine, it just robs you of your ability to feel good when you’re not drinking if

Rip the bandaid off.

Caffeine is my Afib trigger. I stopped after I went into Afib just after Thanksgiving. After drinking coffee heavily since a teenager (I'm 61). Love coffee, wife still drinks it and I love the smell. So it's been six months for me.

It was easy for me to quick once I made up my mind. I did not taper. Cold turkey. I do not drink Cokes, or tea or any form of caffeine now.

Here's what NO COFFEE DRINKER WANTS TO HEAR: my mood and energy level throughout the day is so much more even. I no longer need the big cup after lunch to keep me from nodding off.

Do it.

Anyway, after about 3 months of quitting, I felt it was safe mentally to incorporate coffee back into my life. A couple of sips into that first cup brought on the shakes and a massive headache. I haven’t been able to handle anything beyond green tea without getting a bad headache.

It’s just crazy. I was a big stoner in college and I had to stop smoking before graduating, because I was about to enter the real world. The worst that ever happened to me was it was hard to sleep, hard to eat, and sometimes I’d get that anxious feeling in my stomach. Only lasted two weeks too, and the withdrawals were pretty mild after only a few days. But it wasn’t anything like headaches and misery, like the caffeine withdrawals. Just crazy to me is all. Seems like many many other legal substances have a stronger addiction rate than marijuana does. shite, I still haven’t been able to curb nicotine. That’s the real devil to quit right there.

I just switched to decaf. Had a couple of episodes of palpitations and from what I can gather, out of nowhere I had developed a caffeine tolerance issue.

For a time.

I wouldn’t want to be around you for a while once you wean off it, though. I find withdrawal makes me irritable as frick. Or more so than normal anyway.

how much do you drink? I drink like 2-3 cups of coffee a day but I don’t drink anything else caffeinated- why are you trying to reduce your dependency?

Same here. I absolutely love coffee and quitting alcohol several years ago seems to have even accelerated it. I'm not stopping coffee until they put me in a pine box.

How dare you tell him the truth!!!

honestly caffeine has been shown to extend longevity bu alot so long as its filtered coffee or caffeine power(supplement).

its the boys that take drink tons of caffeine and are big ole boys that have a problem. and those that drink unfiltered like french press.
