Then why are you even looking at a Cayman?

Kinda where I was going w/ my comments.
I mean, I get it, people by cars for lots of reasons; that's there prerogative.
The cars in the OP offer a tremendously different driving experience. The Cayman S, unless in the hands of an extremely skilled driver, would be unable to keep up with the Vette on a road course, much less a straight line:
Then there's performance. The Corvette hits 60 mph in 4.3 seconds (4.1 seconds with 1-foot rollout as on a drag strip) on its way to a quarter-mile time of 12.4 seconds at 113.7 mph. The Cayman S requires 4.6 seconds (4.4 seconds with 1-foot rollout) to get to 60 mph and runs in 12.8 seconds at 108.8 mph at our drag strip. The Stingray scores again in the handling tests, weaving through the slalom at 73.5 mph while the Porsche trails slightly at 72.3 mph. The same goes for the skid pad, with the 'Vette circling at 1.05g to the Cayman's 1.0g.
And at the Streets of Willow road course, a track that distinctly favors handling over power, the Corvette clocked a lap time of 1:24.6, smoking the Cayman's 1:27.0. Pit them against each other at Willow's big track and the Porsche would be even further outclassed.
(I know OP was looking at the 4cyl car)
While my u/n would suggest an automatic bias, my last car buy was not a Z06, but a Jag.
I am still capable of independent thought.

Cayman. Get the S if you can or go slightly used. It's one hell of a enjoyable car.

My first foray into "fast" cars has treated me well, but now I want something a little more sporty and I no longer care if I look like a turbo-douche while doing it. So, Cayman or Stingray? Z06 is just a bit too rich for my blood unfortunately.
Cayman Pros:
Looks better
Don't see 10 of them every day
Can brag about driving a mid-engined sports car even tho I'll never take it on the track
German, so, superior
Cayman Cons:
There are none this car is perfect lol
Stingray Pros:
Good looking car
Faster 0-60 by almost a half second and let's face it, straight-line speed is all that's gonna matter for me
Will sound better than the Cayman's turbo-four
Stingray Cons:
I'd be just another dildo driving a vette
Corvettes are actually Mid-engined

"The median age of a Corvette owner has risen from 54 to 61 during the past 10 years" "According to the demographics, about 40% of new Corvette buyers have household incomes over $100,000"
A Chat with Porsche's Wendelin Wiedeking - Businessweek. “[In the U.S.] the typical 911 buyer is 46 to 65, average age 52. Household income: $310,000. The Boxster buyer is 36 to 55, with an average age of 47 [and] an average income of $243,000.”
That's from the web so take it for what it's worth. I bought a Cayman S in 2014 and it's an awesome car. The PCA in NO is also a ton of fun.
The 718 Cayman Con - 4 cylinder.

Vette, and I'm a Porsche guy.
I had an '09 911 Carrera and decided I wanted something new, so I was trying to get a deal done on a new Cayman S. Couldn't get a deal I liked, got pissed, and bought a C7 Vette with the Z51 package - totally on a whim since all I thought about were Porsches for several years and hadn't even CONSIDERED a Vette until the week I bought one.
The Vette was incredibly fun to drive. It was a few tenths faster than my 911 (which was faster than the Cayman S), but it felt like it was several seconds faster. The speed difference due to the unreal torque of the Vette felt like a night and day difference. I thought I would suffer a bit when I put it on the road course at NOLA, but I was faster in the Vette than I was in the 911 (both were manual, by the way). If you just want primarily straight line speed, then it's a no brainer - the Vette will be much more FUN to drive. If you are considering a regular Cayman and not even an S, you especially won't know what you're missing. The new Cayman S (718 model for 2017) will put up some impressive numbers and won't be that much slower than the Vette on paper, but I guarantee you from a fun perspective the Vette will just blow the Cayman away. I'd consider a Cayman GTS over a Vette and would definitely take a GT4, but not a regular or an S. Trust me on this one.
As far as the "douche in a Vette" perspective, you'd be surprised at how people view the two cars. When I had my 911 (and it was a beautiful car because it was the Aqua Blue Metallic), I only got a few rare compliments on the car, generally from people who really know cars. Also got a couple "if you bought a Porsche you're compensating for something" comments. When I got the Vette, people went apeshite over it. I picked it up in Atlanta, and on the drive back to La. I literally had several people pull up alongside me and give a "thumbs up." The first time I stopped to get gas, someone pulled in behind me and got out just to take pics of the car. Rarely did I take that car out that I didn't get compliments on it. People just LOVE the Vette. I got more compliments in the first week than I got in a year on the 911. And this was a 2015, so it wasn't like I got one the first week they came out - they were in the second year of the C7 already.
If you're a diehard Porsche fanatic who has dreamed of owning one your entire life (like I was when I got the 911), then by all means get the Cayman - but get the "S" or you'll be very disappointed. But if you're on the fence and are looking to just enjoy driving, I guarantee you'll enjoy the Vette more.

This is drastically understated. People with bone stock automatic C7's are putting up 3.8-3.9 0-60 times (and this is confirmed times with track slips to prove it). They are doing better than that with better tires and minor mods. The manuals are around the 4.0 mark. Hell, in the first week just by stopping in the road and running 1/4s, with very crappy starts, I put up 4.4/12.5 times in my manual - and that had a LOT of room for improvement.

Thanks for pointing that out.
My gold chains got caught in my chest hair and when I jumped up my toupee slipped down over my eyes causing me to not see the keyboard.

Straight line speed means nothing, buy a bit older 911.

If you go with the Vette, be sure to get the PDR (Performance Data Recorder). It has a built in video camera with several overlays to choose from and will give you 0-60 times, 0-100, 1/4 mile, and an abundance of other data. If you ever put it on the track, it will record your lap times via GPS. Hell, I'd buy the Vette just for the PDR - it's so much fun to play with.
