Nothing sanctimonious about it. Some of us just prefer knowing what we’re getting instead of wandering into a kennel like it’s a clearance rack. I love dogs, so I love the puppy stage.

Let’s be honest here. You don’t have a dog in this fight, you just want to argue with me. It’s cute.

some people just can’t go a day without making sure the world hears their virtue signal. Taking in a pet is a personal decision, Ive have an unbroken string of rescue rangers in our home for decades but my best dog was a 3000 dollar golden retriever puppy.

I do suspect that if you asked all the shelter screamers if they also volunteer for rescue groups and/or foster dogs the answer would be no. Dog ownership is a blessing and should be judgement free, but few things are in the real world or on the internet. All dogs are good dogs except pibbles

I’ve tried to adopt through dog rescues many times over the years but those people are just freaking nuts and looking to reject you. I’m also not agreeing to allow you to pop in my home anytime you please in the future and be able to take the dog back on a whim. That’s why I stick with breeders I know. I use the akc website and find breeders that way.

Apply this to women, cars, etc. doesn't work for normal life. You want something you can trust, shelter dogs just ain't it every time. If you have a family, kids especially, get what you want. Those that believe this shelter mantra, have you personally been in the middle of a dog that's lost his shite and a kid? I have, many stitches later I won't do it again. I'm happy to donate, volunteer, and help animals find a suitable home, shelter dogs aren't for me right now.

That’s your fault, not the dogs.

Do better homework.

Doesn’t matter if it’s a purebred or shelter dog.

Edit: and that homework includes not adopting pitbull mixes.

they can be that is true. Here’s an example.
I’ve owned bloodhounds on an off since college (they don’t live very long). Our last hound was a rescue we found on Craigslist living in a crate in a 2 room apartment. We brought her home and everyone told us there was no way we could keep her in the yard with an invisible fence, that it was impossible.

Happy died at age 9 having spent the rest of her life obediently respecting the shock fence, she never once tried to bust out and her last few years didn’t even wear her collar.

So I called SE Bloodhound Rescue to see if they had a hound that needed a home, first question was do you have a fence. I told happy’s story of success with the invisible fence and the glorious property it surrounds and was flat out told “no”. No fence no dog.

so it depends. I respect their decision but a good dog is missing out

We went through Molly's Militia for our mutt and she's been the best dog I've ever had. She's 13 now so our time is short but what a good dog

Why am I getting downvotes for saying to get a shelter dog?

I guess it depends on where you live, but in Los Angles (where we used to live) it isn't great advice. We looked into it and there was nothing available but pit bulls.

This.
I only have goldens. They are pretty much perfect dogs for me.

No need to look anywhere else

Yeah I agree. I’m totally fine with you coming to my home to look around and see where and how the dog will be living. But I’m not open to you dropping by anytime you want in the future and if you don’t like something suddenly the dog is going back. I don’t have a fenced in yard either but I live on 500 acres and my yard is 4 acres. We have a lot of lab teachers here in S.C. and I’m always a no because of my no fenced in yard even though I own all the land around me. Turns out I ended up with a lab puppy from a local couple who I keep in touch with and send pics to all the time and they are so happy how their puppy is living.

We have three purebred golden retrievers left.

Please go search "golden retriever puppies Louisiana / Mississippi" on FB if you're interested.

We're not breeders. Did this to keep one and some 4H credit for the kids.

I went to a shelter but then was denied benzoyl I didn't have two years vet history for my then current dog. Then tried another shelter. Picked out a dog. Loved it went to get it and they gave it to someone else.
Each time had to fill out an application. . So said screw it and drove to Mississippi and bought an AKC Aussie.
I'm totally fine with buying my dogs rather than adopting.

I have 4 dogs. Most rescues won’t approve me for “too many dogs”.

My dogs eat Purina one and have pet insurance. Make it make sense.

I did a Google search of what you said and omg your dogs are beautiful.

If I lived closer to BRLA I would adopt one.

Some of the places that adopt out dogs and cats are ridiculous in home checks. I went to a shelter.

He probably doesn’t want him or his family to be mauled by the new rescue dog. Shame on him.
