People that know what they want and can afford it, and DGAF about the adopt/shelter only crowd

We have kids and this was a big no for me when my wife wanted to "adopt" a dog. You're rolling the dice every-time. Breeds have specific characteristics traits and I'm not taking any chance of brining a pit bull or partial pit bull near them. Not worth it

Most dogs are great and I'm glad people adopt at the shelter but it's insane when you try to shame dudes who may just want a lab or a beagle.

Uhh…how much would you pay for your most loyal friend?

Ok, so that price, then triple it!

make a living negotiating deals. I am so effective, my company is paying $200K to send me to law school. I negotiate cars for people on Saturdays for fun.

This is one of the douchier statements I’ve seen here in a while.

As an adult I negotiate deals and am an attorney as well. As a teenager I bred labs, good labs. I would have told you to get lost if you laid your cash on the table and it wasn’t my asking price.

In retrospect yes, it does sound as you said douche, but I said it and will stand behind it and own it.

Then we shake hands on move on. I have done well doing things my way. It sounds like you have done the same. More than one way to skin a cat.

i hate this shitty guilt trip. if I’ve got the money to buy a puppy, why do you shelter people care?

Exactly. I mean, bless the shelter dog folks but don’t be virtue signaling or shaming people for wanting otherwise, self righteous fricks.

Proudly denigrating purity.

Whether you agree or not, the analogy is clear. Hoes=mutts.

Thank you, though I respectfully disagree.

"Hoes" is a pretty rough term for women who have had a couple of failed relationships, and mutts, well, what can be said, they didn't do anything wrong either.

Just my two cents, but in my experience nearly every living creature can be redeemed with sufficient time and effort.

Have a good evening!

As if there is nothing inbetween.

I have retrievers. Three on my bed as I type. All came from breeders who love their dogs and treat them well. I went and checked them out before. Saw the conditions. How the mom looked. How the breeder conducted himself.

As to the original post, nothing wrong with asking but the better the stock and the better the reputation if the breeder the less likely they flinch.

There you go again....sanctimonious.

Flashing dollars as if everyone else is dollar short.

He simply doesn't know what he wants. He's asking for ideas. So going to a place where there's all types is akin to window shopping. Have a look, see what might grab their attention, and then study up. Read up on this breeds behavior, their general heath characteristics, is it a bundle on non-stop energy, is it laid back, a herding dog, a water dog, require wide open spaces, or shed uncontrollably. Things like will it eat up the sofa without a big yard. And if he still wants a dog with papers he'll have a much better idea than now.

And that puppy stage is the hardest part for most 1st time beginners... and the one stage I can't wait for one to out grow.
