That big fella on the right, when one of your buddies is over with his kid and the dog gets after him, you gonna stop him?
Like I said, I've been in that position with my niece and a shelter dog. Its just a risk I'm not willing to take when I can purchase a puppy from a reputable place and know it's background.
Good on you for adopting though, I mean that, no sarcasm.

Who buys a dog? Pick up a stray and do something good. Maybe pay a few bucks for one from a shelter. You’ll be happier and so will the dog.

If he doesn't know what he wants.... going to a shelter and seeing what might appeal is not too bad a way.
BTW: You sound sanctimonious, petty, and over compensating all at the same time.

Apply this to women, cars, etc. doesn't work for normal life. You want something you can trust, shelter dogs just ain't it every time. If you have a family, kids especially, get what you want. Those that believe this shelter mantra, have you personally been in the middle of a dog that's lost his shite and a kid? I have, many stitches later I won't do it again. I'm happy to donate, volunteer, and help animals find a suitable home, shelter dogs aren't for me right now.
This may be true if puppy mill breeders are a sure thing but they are not. You could pay $6k for a dog with health issues/dies in 6months.

Don’t get the extended warranty.

I disagree... "In Southeast Louisiana and many southern shelters, pit bull-type dogs and their mixes frequently make up roughly 30% to over 70% of the shelter population. These dogs are disproportionately represented in shelters"
Unless, of course, he wants a pibble... then by all means, the shelter is the way to go.

The Lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep. Keep paying full price.

Many years ago I had a friend that probably had the best foxhound kennel in the country. Another hunter wanted to buy one of his really good females. He said she is not for sale. The hunter said “Mose, I’m gonna buy that hound”. He pulled out a wad of hundreds and started tossing them on the ground and said “ whenever you think that’s enough, just bend down and pick it up”. Finally, Mose picked up the money and the sale was made. I asked him why he sold her, when he had just said she’s not for sale. He said “ my knees got weak and I was afraid he’d stop tossing them and pick them up. Only thing is, I miscounted, I thought it was 2500 but it was only 2400”.
This was back when you could get a good fox dog for 500 or a really good one for 1000.

Interesting thread to try to take a personal shot at someone. I’d suggest dialing it down a notch lil fella
BTW: I’m glad to know I get under your skin, that makes me happier than you can imagine.

Same here in South Texas.
Like i said earlier in the thread: we often foster dogs. But the vast majority of the dogs in the shelters here are pit mixes and chihuahua mixes. I’m not bringing either around my dogs or my kids. awestruck didn’t have anything to actually add to this thread, just wanted to take a personal shot at me because our politics don’t align.

Obviously you do care enough to reply. And it doesn’t work. Keep fooling yourself into thinking it does. Lion my arse, Garfield maybe.

I make a living negotiating deals. I am so effective, my company is paying $200K to send me to law school. I negotiate cars for people on Saturdays for fun.
Keep doing things your way and I will continue to do them my way. Good evening.

Stunning shepherds! All shelter dogs are worthy, but I bet alot of folks don’t realize how many pure breeds end up in one. Even puppies. These days, the Great Pyrenees is one such breed. As are German shepherds.
OP, when you look for a breeder, really check them out well. Ask around to people who already have what you are looking for. Go there and see the premises and parents and littermates. You’d be surprised how many “AKC” breeders are in filth, take terrible care of their dogs, etc. One in Texas was just recently arrested for shooting her shepherd bc she was done breeding and there were dead dogs and bones on the property. Happens a lot. Good luck.

This could be taken an entirely different way...

Those pushing everyone to go to a shelter to adopt a dog are probably the same ones that wanted a wife that had been tried out and rejected a couple of times before because she would be someone that was not an amateur that would know more about real life experiences. [/quote]
Whoa there baw! How about a comma, period, even a deep breath somewhere to slow that run-on sentence down! I’m outa breath trying to read that.

Yes, I know but it is because I am often sitting eyeball to eyeball with an attorney and it would be nice to have the same credential instead of just a dude who worked his way up with an accounting degree from Southeastern.
