Crazy, but my wrangler could probably sell for 90% of what I bought it for 13 years ago
07 with 90k miles on it

Yes indeed. There's probably a full second for $0 right there in your bathroom mirror.

Correct, I brain farted. I was thinking about how much I would love a Lava Orange or Ultra Violet RS as I typed.

So my friend lives in CO, he mentioned he wants a toy car to drive like once a month, but keep for years and appreciate in value. He seems locked in on a Dodge Challenger Demon, since they were made for one year (2018) and only limited production
Demon isn’t a bad shout, but they’re hard to come by and when they pop up they sell for $150k+. What’s your friend’s budget? Personally, I think a Viper from nearly any generation would be a good option. Not made anymore, if they make them again it almost certainly will not be in the same vein as the old one, relatively low production numbers, and good ones can be found for a decent price.
Also, well preserved cars from the 80’s and 90’s, like the M3 as mentioned previously, are doing well. Doug Demuro has some good videos on YouTube about future classics and what the current market is doing.

Non modded s-2000 would fit the description of a modern classic IMHO. Excellent car and rare but somewhat affordable.

I agree with this. They seem to be going through this last hurrah right now. The prices for some of these cars at auction are mind boggling.

No they aren't they are bringing top dollar because of all the delivery delays due to COVID and Chevy's laundry list of build issues so the demand is high. When everything is sorted and supply gets to where Chevy wants it to be the 2020s will likely be the year to avoid.
100pct this. Most cars that have tremendous collector value also have a deep hole they go into first, value-wise. There will be 50,000+ vettes just like this 2020 on the road for a few decades.
Find something 20 years old that is at the bottom of it's value trough.
-C4 Corvette
-R129 500SL
-3rd gen Camaro/Mustang (4 cam cobra??)
-Ferrari 360
-E39 M5 or 540i sport (6spd)

Define modern?
Last model of any of the US Big 3 auto companies i would consider as collectible is mid 90s 2 door Tahoe

Go a little older and get a 1987 Pontiac Grand National GNX.

I think the best Bimmer from the last 25 years to hold onto would be the E36 M3 Lightweight. The market is already exploded but it keeps going up.
S54 Clown Shoe and Z4 M Coupe say hi.

There will always be a low mile Demon available. Too many were purchased to look at. Buy a better car for similar money. Find a low mile Porsche GT3 and be done with it. Great driver, track car, and already increasing in value.

Not collectable, but I think 1990s SUVs will hold their value and maybe even appreciate a little. Before all of the technology, but still modern enough to be livable.
4Runner, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Cherokee, etc. in good shape would be cool to own. IMO some of those will climb in value as most of them were beat to hell and are headed towards the junkyard. Most still have the old slab-sided classic lines of the time that people like.

The reatta was really a nice car, ahead of it's time. Just didn't sell.

I think a really cheap one that will appreciate is the E90M3. Less than 10000 made, not a fast car per say, but the novelty of the V8 will be the reason for the value along with it being the last naturally aspirated M3. Lot more E92's available which I will probably buy one soon because I think they look better even though the sedan is rarer, more practical, and virtually weighs the same.

The Alfa sports cars will probably have a following in a decade or so. They are beautiful which will help.
Even though the GTR seems to be a no-brainer, I think it will get even more collectible.
The R8 seems like a sleeper collectible, especially the V10.
Tried finding an Elise the other day and they seem to be disappearing.

You don’t see a lot of Vipers. I’d love to have a GTS

This would be my pick. Something like this:
I'm hoping these stay at reasonably attainable prices for a while.
Something about Vipers I've loved since I first saw one back when I was 5. Former Saints punter lived down the street from us and had a Red RT Roadster back in the day.

Nice condition Jeep XJ's are starting to climb as well.
